APRIL 19, 2023 - NEWSLETTER
SLPHS families,
Our spring activities and athletics are in full swing now with games and competitions happening most nights of the week. This is a busy time of year! In addition to the athletics calendar, I hope you’ll take a look at the upcoming events section below with some other great opportunities.
I want to highlight one special opening this weekend – our high school musical, “Matilda.” The show runs this weekend and next. I hope to see you out and supporting our courageous and talented student performers and those that make the show possible and a success.
I am also proud to share that we have three students heading to the DECA national competition and conference this weekend. This experience provides excellent learning, inspiration, and growth for these students, and their participation enhances our school in community in return.
Finally, we are nearing the midpoint of this final trimester, and I want to ask all parents and guardians to reinforce with your student(s) the importance of remaining academically focused and putting forth maximum effort to the end of the term. Spring is a time when we want to see all students, especially our seniors, finish the year strong and go into summer knowing they are ready for the next chapter of their academic journey and life.
Thank you as always for your ongoing support and partnership. One school, one community #SLPPantherProud!

Please help: Required iPad Update and Apple ID/Apple Classroom Sign-In Fix
Apple recently released an update (iOS 16.4+) which has alleviated a disruptive bug that causes student Apple IDs to sign out. This causes major disruptions including student data not being backed up and the inability to use Apple Classroom.
Please help students follow the steps provided here to resolve this issue:
- Update iPads to iOS 16.4 or higher. This can be done by going to Settings>General>Software Update.
- After the iPads are updated, or if they are already up to date, go to Settings. If you see a red icon under your name/iCloud account, tap on “Update Apple ID Settings” and sign back into the school Apple ID.
- Once signed back in, this message will go away.
If you have any questions, contact the help desk 763-600-5555, techsupport@district16.org.

Career Fair forges connections
Energy, volume and engagement were high at the second annual career fair on April 6 where 118 organizations connected with nearly 2,000 Spring Lake Park High School students to support career exploration and employment.
There were therapy dogs, robots, hair jewels, a basketball hoop, hammers, simulators, candy (so much candy) . . . and buzz. The Spring Lake Park High School auxiliary gym came alive as students wandered the aisles and engaged with employers and colleges to learn more about immediate job openings, summer opportunities and longer-term career paths.

Bill Neiss, Outstanding Leadership Award
Join us in congratulating Bill Neiss, Spring Lake Park High School's Opportunities in Emergency Care Program Director, for receiving the Outstanding Leadership Award at MN HOSA State Conference!
Here is what the Minnesota Executive Director, Summer Hagey, had to say: "Bill has been a teacher, local HOSA advisor, OEC Director and MN HOSA Board member for over 30 years. Not only is Bill an incredible coach to his current students, but he is notorious for keeping tabs on his graduates to ensure they are living and working to their true potential. Bill is the definition of someone who has demonstrated extraordinary leadership in the educational community at the chartered association and international level."
