January Elms Newsletter!
News From Dr. Hagens
Happy New Year! I would like to welcome everyone back from a restful holiday break. As we venture into the New Year, I want you to keep in mind that we are here to make your child’s educational experience a rewarding and successful one. We will continue to strive towards excellence for all students and welcome you to get on board this year and make a difference in your child’s education. There are many opportunities that we provide for you, as parents, to get involved in your child’s education or simply volunteer. Please stop by our main office to fill out a volunteer application.
January tends to be a very quick month, especially after returning from such a heavily anticipated vacation. However, the staff and students here at Elms have many things to accomplish before we round out the end of the semester which is January 13th. We also plan to welcome many new fun activities and programs for the Elms community to enjoy.
At this time of the school year it is important to stay abreast of your child’s academic performance. Keep in mind teachers and administration are available to discuss with you specific areas of improvement your child may need. Our goal is to ensure all students are successful and learning while under our care and supervision. If concerns arise in terms of the progress of your child, please contact us. It is important to me, and the staff, that lines of communication are always open and reciprocal.
The next Elms PTA meeting will take place on January 9th at 7:00 pm. It is important that you attend PTA meetings whenever you are available. The PTA is always looking for individuals to volunteer or chair major school events. Go to the PTA section on page 2 of my newsletter to find out more about PTA.
There will no school on January 16, 2023 in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Holiday. School will resume on January 21, 2020. The end of the semester is January 17th. The next Early Dismissal will take place on January 18, 2023. School will dismiss at 2:05 pm.
Thanks for always being supportive of our school.
Have a wonderful 2023!
Cold & Flu/Lost & Found
Just a reminder - we do have a medication policy. NO MEDICATION is allowed at school without a medication form from the school office filled out with written consent from a doctor. This includes COUGH DROPS.
We also have a fever policy. Students must be fever free for 24 hours before coming back to school. This is protection for your child as well as others. Thank you for your cooperation.
Parents we have collected quite a few items in our lost and found consisting of hats, mittens, gloves, and even coats. Please visit our lost and found the next time you are at Elms. Some of these items might by your child’s and we want to make sure you recover them as colder months approach!
Student Council Non-Perishables Food Drive
Over the holiday months our student council collected canned goods and non-perishables that were donated to the Flushing Christian Outreach Center.
Congratulations to the Elms Student Council for organizing this activity. We could not have done this without you and the leadership of student council coordinators Mrs. Spodney and Mrs. Twohig.
