School Break Testing for COVID-19
The California Department of Public Health encourages all school children to access at-home COVID-19 testing as they return to school following breaks. The Santa Clara Office of Education has provided free at COVID tests to LPJUSD, and we will be distributing at-home test kits to all students today. We strongly encourage you to test your child(ren) on Sunday, January 8th before they return to school on the 9th. If your student tests positive, please keep your child home and contact Julie at CTE and Lisa at Loma. We want to ensure that our students and staff return to school safely.
Julie’s Email (for CT): j.bourque@loma.k12.ca.us
Lisa’s Email (for Loma): l.sullivan@loma.k12.ca.us

STAFF SPOTLIGHT
Cold and Flu Season
As you know the Cold and Flu season is upon us. Similar to our partner, LGHS, we are seeing an increase in respiratory illness across both schools. Please keep your student home if they are feeling ill, and rule out COVID with a home antigen test.
Over the winter break, our custodial team will be doing a deep sanitizing of all classrooms to have a "fresh start" for when students return on January 9.
Please help us stop the spread of germs by reminding your child to do the following:
Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze
Throw used tissues in the trash
If you don’t have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your elbow, not your hand
Immediately wash your hands after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing.
Definitely keep your child at home for treatment and observation if he or she has any of these symptoms:
- Fever (greater than 100 degrees and your child may return to school only after his or her temperature has been consistently below 100 degrees, by mouth, for a minimum of 24 hours)
- Vomiting (even once)
- Diarrhea
- Chills
- General malaise or feelings of fatigue, discomfort, weakness or muscle aches
- Frequently congested (wet) or croupy cough
Our custodians disinfect common touch points on a regular basis and ensure that there is soap and hand sanitizer in dispensers. Please also take the time to review this flu guide for parents from the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).”
The health and well-being of our students and staff is our top priority. Thank you in advance for helping make this year at school as healthy as possible.
Loma-Palooza 2023
Loma Talent Show
Friday, February 17th
• Applications will be available online from Monday, January 9th at 8am through Friday, January 13th at 3pm. Click HERE for a link to applications. You will need to submit your application online before the deadline on January 13th at 3pm.
• Performers must be in 1st through 5th grade.
• Auditions are Thursday, January 26th from 3pm-5pm in the Loma Forum.
• Mandatory rehearsals are February 9th and 16th from 3pm-5pm in the Loma Forum.
• If you are a 5th grader, you can be an MC (Master of Ceremony) or Stagehand. Click HERE for the link to MC/Stagehand applications. You will need to attend a stage crew meeting one day at recess as well as the rehearsals on February 9th and 16th. You will also be asked to help decorate the stage. If you choose to do this, you may only perform in an act if space allows.
• Remember: Lyrical content, music, and costumes must be appropriate for a school-age audience; questionable material will not be allowed. No act can be based solely on lip-syncing. Music for each act must be unique so no two acts may use the same song.
• Any questions, please contact Ms. Pestcoe at s.pestcoe@loma.k12.ca.us or Ms. Zanotto at k.zanotto@loma.k12.ca.us.CTE Volunteers & Games Needed
In addition, we would love any board games (new or used) that you would like to donate. Please feel free to drop off in the CTE office.
If you are interested in volunteering at lunch recess, please reach out directly to Mrs. Ramsay @ a.ramsay@lpjusd.us for more information

Summit Store Friday-Update
Parents and Students-
We will revisit the possibility of reopening the long standing tradition of Summit Store Fridays in January with store management.
As you are aware, students are NOT allowed to be at the Summit Store unsupervised (without a parent), especially on Fridays.
If your child is going to cross the bridge after school, you must submit a note to the school secretary. Lisa at Loma; Julie at CT
Please remind your child that they MUST cross using the bridge and not to run across Summit Road.
Short-Term Independent Study Reminder
Short-term Independent Study Application requests need to made at least two weeks prior to the date of the first absence. BUSES
We encourage you to consider using our school buses to transport your child to and from school to reduce the campus traffic and increase our parking lot safety. Bus pass information is available in both school offices.
Peanut Free School District
We are a PEANUT FREE school district. Please do not send your child to school with peanuts or other peanut products including peanut butter.
We do have some classrooms with students who have life threatening allergies to other nuts. If your child has peers in their classroom with allergies to other nuts, your child’s teacher will inform you that your child’s classroom is a nut free space.

Kindergarten dismisses each day at 1:30pm, except on minimum days where students are dismissed at 12:30pm. We will communicate with you when a minimum day occurs.
1st-8th graders are dismissed at 2:45pm, except for Wednesdays where students are dismissed at 1:30pm.
