Car Rider Chronicles
We will have district officials visiting our campus next week to assess our traffic challenges and see what supports, if any can be provided. In the meantime, we ask that you continue to adhere to the car rider drop off procedures so that these officials can get an accurate reading on the challenges our school faces. Below is a copy of the follow up message that Mr. DiFilippo sent out earlier this week.
Dear Dyer Parents,
I want to thank everyone for their help in getting your students to school on time. Many of you have done a great job in arriving during our slower time between 7:45-8AM. That said, there is still some work to be done in streamlining our morning drop off procedures.
First, please be reminded that there are NO LEFT TURNS out of the parking lot between the hours of 7:45AM-8:25AM. Parents attempting to take a left turn are backing up the car rider line. This directly impacts our ability to move the line forward and results in major delays. More importantly, making a left turn during these high traffic times puts your life and the lives of others at risk.
Second, some parents have begun to park their cars in either a parking spot or in the middle of the car rider line, and walk or release their child(ren) to the curb. Please refrain from doing this. This is creating a major safety issue for all involved as students and parents are popping out from between parked cars. It is important to remember that the policy of parking and walking your student to the front door was designed for parents that have business at the school such as dropping off paperwork, meeting with staff, etc. If you find that you have business at the school, you are welcome to park in a designated parking spot and escort your child to the front of the school via the crosswalks.
Additional information regarding our car rider procedures can be found on the back of your car tag as well as in the Car Riders Brochure and in the Dyer ES Parent/Student Handbook. Please be sure to review these resources and follow the procedures listed.
Of course, you are also welcome to utilize the GCPS bus services. You can do this easily by completing a Transportation Parent Authorization form and sending it in to the front office.
Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our students and their families safe!
