Information and Updates
Grades 9-12 Week of October 11th
Parents and Guardians,
Now that we are into October, and have had the opportunity to iron out some of the wrinkles in our routines and procedures, we wanted to take a moment to clarify expectations with busses, carline, and breakfast. It is important to note that our procedures and rationale for our decisions always comes back to the health and safety of our students and drivers. In addition, we want to ensure that all students who wish to take advantage of the breakfast program are able to do so. And lastly, we want to provide a learning environment that is free from as many disruptions as possible.
Carline
In order to minimize the back up of traffic off of State Road, the carline will open up at 7:05am. Students will get out of the car and wait on the grass until the gate is opened at 7:15am. Students entering from carline who wish to have breakfast should go directly to the cafeteria. They are then to report to homeroom no later than 7:38am when the late bell rings.
Carline closes at 7:35am each day. If you arrive after 7:35am you will need to drive to the front of the school and report to the main office. Students arriving after 7:35am are to be signed in by a parent/caregiver and are expected to go directly to homeroom.
Busses
Busses arrive between 7:15am and 7:33am. Students who eat breakfast are to go directly to the cafeteria. All others should go directly to the homeroom. Students in grades 4-6 will take breakfast back to their homeroom and students in grades 7-12 eat in the cafeteria. The cafeteria closes at 7:36am . All students are expected to be in their homeroom by 7:38 (late bell). In the event a bus is late, those students will be given a pass and may proceed to homeroom or the cafeteria for a grab-and-go breakfast.
Student behavioral expectations are the same on the bus as they are at school. In the event, an issue arises on a bus, the driver will complete a referral form and submit it to the divisional principal. The principal will then look into the incident and determine if it is a minor or major infraction. Minor infractions, will follow progressive discipline ranging from reteaching expectations to removal from the bus. If it is determined a referral is a major incident, we may go directly to removal from the bus. We will communicate all referrals and consequences to parents/caregivers.
If your child uses an Avon Grove transfer bus in the morning please encourage them to load the busses as soon as they arrive at Fred S. Engle. Students who choose to report directly onto a bus upon arrival, will incur a bus referral and the consequences associated with that referral.
We appreciate your time in reviewing the expectations and encourage you to reiterate them to your child.
If you have any specific questions or concerns, please call or email your divisional principal.
Thank you!
Sincerely,
Matthew Messick
High School Principal
MIDPOINT - 1ST MARKING PERIOD
Please be sure to take a minute and check the progress of your student's grades in Powerschool for the 1st marking period. There are roughly three weeks remaining in the quarter, so today will provide you with a good snapshot of their performance to date. During the mid-point check, parents and students should reference Powerschool/Parent Portal to see their student's academic performance. Teachers have provided a syllabus for their classes at the beginning of the year outlining their grading procedures. Please discuss concerns with your student and have them direct any questions to the specific teacher whose class may be a concern.
If you are having trouble accessing the parent portal, please email the main office at staterdmainoffice@agcharter.org for assistance. Thank you for taking the time to be an active participant in your child's education. Please contact your student’s teacher with any specific questions or concerns.
