February is CTE Month!
Career and Technical Education Month is a public awareness campaign that takes place each February to celebrate the value of CTE and the achievements and accomplishments of CTE programs. Make sure to check out some of our CTE success stories below!
Congratulations to Landon Walker of Shipbuilding Academy!
Congratulations to OSHS CTE senior Landon Walker! Landon is part of the first group of 10 Ingalls Shipbuilder Academy high school seniors who accepted a contingent job offer as part of the inaugural Sheetmetal and Joiner training program. These students will learn initial job skills training, and upon successful completion of the program, begin their careers at Ingalls as marine sheetmetal and joiner craftsmen and women.
MGCCC CTE Scholarship - Year 2 Seniors: Did you apply?
MGCCC offers a scholarship to students who have completed year 1 and year 2 of the same CTE program. The New Century Skills Scholarship Master Scholar requires a 3.5 GPA (unweighted) and is for $6,000 over a 2 year period. The New Century Skills Scholarship Expert Scholar requires a 3.0 GPA (unweighted) and is for $3,000 over a 2 year period. Please see Mr. Diaz, Mrs. Knochel, or Mrs. Varney ASAP if you have not applied. If you are currently in year 2 as a junior, please come back and see us your senior year to apply!
Chevron and American Heart Association Donation to OSHS Health Classes
The health classes received a donation of a CPR in Schools Kit from Chevron and the American Heart Association. The kit will allow us to continue teaching hands-only CPR to all students at OSHS.
Tech Master Application Due March 16!
Seniors - Are you a Year 2 student (or completed a year 2 program) and a senior? Don't miss out on the opportunity to apply for the MS Techmaster recognition. Recipients will receive a certificate and a medallion to wear at graduation. Please return completed applications to Mr. Diaz in the CTE Office no later than March 16. Click the link below or stop by the CTE Office or CTE Lab for a copy of the application.
Quarter 2 CTE Greyhound Greatness Recipients
Congratulations to our CTE Greyhound Greatness recipients for quarter 2! For this recognition, each department at OSHS submits names of three students that will be honored. Greyhound Greatness is based on items such as good character or academic excellence. Congratulations Zoe, Devin, and Kaden!

SAME/Army Engineering and Construction Camp
The Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) is accepting applications from qualified high school sophomores and juniors interested in attending the SAME/Army Engineering and Construction Camp, June 13-19, 2021 in Vicksburg, MS. Course Selections for 21-22 School Year
Course selections for the 2021-2022 School Year are currently underway. If you would like to take a CTE course again next year, please return the attached application to the CTE Office by March 5. You will also need to choose that course in PowerSchool under the course selection screen. The course request window closes on March 5.
