We Are Central
NEWS FROM THE NEST
Keeping with the theme
You all remember the story about the laundry basket and the expectation that we will do more than just the basics of our job? Well time and again our teachers have done just that. Take for example Ms. Leigh Barwick, Ms. Kensey D'Souza, and Ms. Laura Parkerson who decided one day during lunch to replenish the local food bank that had been emptied due to community needs after Hurricane Michael. Look at Ms. Bethany Hayes who organized the Tree of Thankfulness in the cafeteria so that we can share with and receive gratitude from our school family. Today Ms. Marie Ragan asked me to reach out to teachers for toy donations to go to the children of Bay County, Florida.
Thanks to all of you for all that you do.
From Ms. Marie Ragan
As you know Panama City got hit hard by the hurricane in October. Dr. and Mrs. Larry Green are participating in a project to collect new and gently used toys for the kids in Bay County. I would like to invite you all here at the high school to participate in this project. We can only hope that our little contribution will put lots of smiles on little faces. If you would like to participate, we will begin collecting toys for all ages immediately. The cut off date is the 10th of December. Please bring toys to the cafeteria and thank you for your generosity.
Recycle, Reduce, Reuse
During Amercia Recycles Day, students in Ms. Kyle Burton's class collected plastic bottle tops and then up-cycled the plastic bottles so that they can be reused in a project later this month. Thanks to Ms. Burton for giving her students a relevant activity to emphasize the importance of recycling and ways to reuse everyday items rather than throwing them in the trash.
A classic assignment with a modern twist
Students in Ms. Charity Kinneer's class are learning to use FlipGrid and will soon be using it to submit a book report! What a great way to encourage literacy with a traditional teaching method that has had a tech upgrade!
Action + Example = Leadership
Mr. Justin Quigg shared with Algebra and Geometry teachers how to utilize a digital notebook during collaborative planning. We have great talent in our building, and sharing strengths with others only makes us better.
Our hearts grew 3 sizes that night!
The Christmas parade theme this year was "A Storybook Christmas." Ms. Allison NeSmith teamed up with Mr. Brett James, and they created a first place TCCHS float! They didn't do it alone! Mr. Glen Gosier and his students helped assemble the float. Mr. Travis Barrett and his students helped get the benches on the float. Coach Bill Wilhelm loaned us his generator to run the lights. A team of Grinch characters got together and stole the show with their costumes, including "Max" aka Mellie the dog. Coaches brought their athletes to walk in the parade, and the Jacket Tribe made their first appearance this year! Thanks to everyone for their teamwork and their school (and Christmas) spirit.
Seeing Double
Congratulations to our softball players, Anna and Emily Greek on signing softball scholarships with Gulf Coast State College. As you see, they will continue to sport blue and gold as they play at the next level. We are proud of our athletic programs which help students earn scholarships and open doors to amazing college opportunities. GO JACKETS!
