Congratulations, Shannon Ewing, Coweta County Teacher of the Year!

So proud to honor and recognize you, Mrs. Ewing!

After being named Elm Street Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Ewing was named one of three finalists for Coweta County Teacher of the Year. Last week, an independent trio of judges visited Mrs. Ewing (and the other two finalists) to observe her in action with students and then conduct an interview. Then, on Wednesday, April 27, Mrs. Ewing was announced as 2016 Coweta County Teacher of the Year!

It was an honor and privilege to introduce Mrs. Ewing during Wednesday night's ceremony and a pleasure to hear her talk about her work. I think many in the audience had their eyes opened to what an outstanding Media Specialist does each day!

I know our staff and students were overjoyed to celebrate Mrs. Ewing, too! It was such fun to recognize her with a Celebration Lap on Thursday morning; we all loved seeing and hearing our students and staff cheering for her.

Mrs. Ewing, you represent us well, showcasing the excellence of Elm Street Elementary and Coweta County School System. Congratulations again!

Below are a few photos and cheers from Thursday's Celebration Lap in honor of Mrs. Ewing!

Pep Rally and Keep Up the Pep Rally Held April 15, April 29

We held our annual Pep Rally for Milestones on Friday, April 15. Step Teams from University of West Georgia came to lead us in the fun! We were pleased to partner with UWG in this event and appreciate the time they spent at our school. During that same gathering, we also spent time honoring one of our very own, Ms. Wimbley! (Snapshots and details of that special moment in separate article below.)

On Friday, April 29, we held our Keep Up the Pep Rally for students getting ready to begin Student Growth Assessments (SGAs). This event was led by our 4th and 5th grade students, together with their teachers and Mr. Tate. It was a fun afternoon in the sun, warming up for giving our best on SGAs. Check out a few of the picts and videos below...

Celebrating Mrs. Wimbley during a secret part of the Milestones Pep Rally

What fun it was surprising Mrs. Wimbley, our completely awesome Assistant Principal, with a tribute all her own during our Milestones Pep Rally!

It was such a joy to hear our students bragging about her strengths and talents, applauding loudly for her, and presenting cheers and chants in her honor. We were all beaming with pride for her as she wore her crown and took her place in the seat of honor.

Loved the way our grade level teams worked together secretively to come up with unique ways to honor Mrs. Wimbley for all she does to support our school. A few clips and photos appear below. It was an AWESOME afternoon in honor of our truly AWESOME Assistant Principal!

We love you, Mrs. Wimbley!!!

Teacher Appreciation Week 2016

Elm Street will join others across the nation in celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week May 2 - May 6, 2016. Students, this is a great opportunity to let your teachers know just how much you appreciate their hard work.

Thank you, PTO, for letting our teachers know just how much they mean to you.

This is also a great time to ensure all immunization records are on file for the upcoming school year, especially for students moving from PreK to K and 5th to 6th grades.

PLEASE NOTE: Any medication not picked up by 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 27 will be discarded.

Way to go, Elm Street Track Team!

Distinguished Young Men of Elm Street

Thank you, Mr. Petch and Mr. Liggins, for your work with Distinguished Young Men of Elm Street on Wednesdays! It was wonderful to see our young men dressed for success each week. We have all noticed their mannerly ways as well, holding doors open for others upon entering or exiting, standing to let others be seated, and more. Looking forward to seeing our young men carry forth these traditions in the weeks and years ahead.

Top TEN - One month remains!

Congratulations to all of the students who have already represented their classmates as Eagles of Month for our Top TEN (Traits Eagles Need). One more month awaits and the trait word this month is Optimism. Excited to see our last crew of Eagles of the Month being recognized on ESN. Eager to see those students and many more signing the trait poster this month for displaying Optimism, too!

Kindergarten Arbor Day Celebration and Tree Planting with Mayor Brady

Another lovely dogwood tree has been planted during an Arbor Day Ceremony with Elm Street Kindergarteners, together with Mayor Brady and the Newnan Tree Commission.

Kindergarten students sang their traditional song once again this year to mark the special occasion! They enjoyed getting a moment to spend with Smokey Bear as well.

Awesome Lip Sync Event - Thank you!

Lip Sync 2016 was AWESOME!

Big thanks to all participating students, parents, and staff.

Special thanks to our faculty sponsors for coordinating the big event: Lyndsay Carnes, Shannon Ewing, and Cindy Ulinski.

We couldn't have done it without everyone's hard work and cooperative spirit.
