Ms. Harris' Weekly Update
February 10th-14th
What's Going On This Week:
- Ms. Harris' Social Studies: This week we will continue learning about World War 1. Students will complete their Yellow Journalism Newspaper projects and discuss the causes of World War 1. Our unit test will be Tuesday the 24th. A study guide will be going home next week. It will cover the annexation of Hawaii, the Spanish American War, Panama Canal, and World War 1.
- Ms. Harris' GT Math/ELA: In math this week we will continue dividing decimals. Students will practice dividing decimals with grids and with the standard algorithm. They will need to know both ways for our unit test on Operations with Decimals that is Friday. The test will cover adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing decimals. Students will get a study guide on Wednesday to help them prepare. In ELA we will continue editing our NaNaWriMo stories. Students will take their spelling test from Friday on Tuesday this week. Their two dessert options will also be due on Tuesday. We will also wrap up the next 20 words of the day this week and a quiz over these 20 words will be on Tuesday the 18th. The quiz will cover the latin roots "photo", "nat", "tact", and "mem".
FMES Night at Moe's is Tuesday
Join us Tuesday at Moe's from 4-8pm for dinner and help raise money for our school.
Club Photos are Tuesday
If your child is in a school club, their picture will be taken tomorrow at some point throughout the day.
We are excited to welcome everyone to our Peace, Love and Pastries event Thursday
Doors open at 7:00 am! There will be an activity for you to complete as a family, a photo booth and breakfast treats for you to share. Remember that parking can be a challenge at FMES, so if you can carpool with another family, we strongly encourage you to do so.Thank you and see you soon!
Other Important Information:
- Friday 14th: We will be exchanging valentines Friday during Social Studies time. If your child would like to bring valentines, please make sure they are positive, peanut free, and enough for everyone. Students are welcome to make mailboxes or we will be decorating bags Friday morning.

- March 2nd: Read Across America Week starts. I'll be doing a day of mystery readers on this day. If you are in interested in signing up as a mystery reader, please use the link here. Remember that I'll have GT students from 8-10:45 and homeroom from 1-2. Please choose a time when your child will be in my classroom. - March 7th: Chili Showdown at NaFo:
The Foundation for Fort Mill Schools Cookin’ for the Kids Chili Showdown is set for Saturday, March 7th from 11-2 at Nation Ford High School. Each year, teams from across the district and the private sector come together to offer community members a taste of their chili in hope of winning one of the awards. In the process, teams raise money to support our outstanding Fort Mill Schools. We encourage you to join us for this family fun event! Be sure to vote for TEAM FMES!!!
