Keeping you informed of all the "tracks" we make at school and in our community!

JSE Monthly Attributes

Characteristic of a Successful Learner (CSL): Act Responsibly

Bucket-Filling Trait: Kindness

It's a Marvelous Monday at JSE

We started off the day highlighting our JSE Random Acts of Kindness hearts being shared in the cafeteria! On Friday students will exchange classroom Valentines and enjoy cookies from our kitchen. This a time for each classroom to strengthen the bond of friendship!

At the end of this month, state-mandated, standardized testing will begin. Third, fourth, and fifth graders will participate in Part I of the ISTEP+, and Part II will take place in mid-late April. Our third grade students will also take the IREAD-3 in mid-March after Part I of the ISTEP+. This exam is focused solely on reading proficiency, and passing scores on the IREAD-3 are required for most students to be promoted to grade four.

We are committed to ensuring that our students are prepared to perform to their best abilities on these assessments. We continue to focus on academic growth for all students and view ISTEPs as another source of information to guide future instruction and promote successful learners. At home continue to sign agendas, support your child with homework, and encourage them to reach their AR goal!

Below is a link to “Experience ISTEP+ Online,” in which you can walk through example test items for yourself. Also included here is a video link about standardized assessments from our Superintendent of Public Instruction, Glenda Ritz. A specific schedule for testing will be shared with you by your child's teacher in the upcoming weeks.

This week, excitement builds for our Candlelight Valentine Lunch on Thursday. Thank you to our kitchen staff, Mr. Krawczyk, and Mrs. Morton for making this another wonderful JSE memory!

We LOVE our school!

Principal

Don't forget...We will not have school this Friday, the 12th and Monday, the 15th UNLESS we have a snow day before then.

Fancy Nancy Week in the JSE Library

Next week will be a fun-filled fancy week in our library! We will be practicing our fancy manners, fancy vocabulary, and reading fancy books. The week will conclude with our fancy Valentine candlelight lunch on Thursday for students and staff. Please remember to dress up in all your fancy on Thursday for the red carpet walk!

3rd-5th Grade: ISTEP+ Information

Students in grades 3-5 will soon be taking ISTEP+ Part I - Applied Skills for English Language Arts and Math. In addition, 4th Graders will take Science and 5th Graders will take Social Studies. This portion of ISTEP+ testing window is February 29 through March 11. A specific schedule for your child's class will be shared by your child's teacher. Please be sure your child eats a nutritious breakfast each morning and gets plenty of sleep each night to help them perform their best on the test. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch with us. Attendance is extremely important during the upcoming weeks and on days of testing.

ISTEP+ Online Experience

You can find additional information and resources to help support your child through Experience Online at the IDOE website. The purpose of Experience is for students, educators, parents, and community members to see how test items similar to those on the ISTEP+assessment are presented in the online system. At round-up we would also like to invite all future Kindergartners to sign-up for a morning 2 hour open house to explore our library, computer lab, classrooms, and cafeteria for a snack. At this time we will also be assessing your child's learning skills to help us prepare for next year and provide you with summer learning focus skills.
