Schoology
If you have not gotten your parent access code for Schoology, please let me know. Access codes did change now that we have the paid version. You will also be able to see the school calendar on Schoology.
Xlandia Project
Your student has begun work on their project, "A Government for Xlandia". In this project, the students represent various countries as members of the UN Security Council. Their task is to recommend a democracy for Xlandia, a country that has recently overthrown a dictatorship. This project will carry three test grades (presentation, white paper, and collaborative skills). Questions you can ask your student include: What country do you represent? What other countries are on your team? What are your recommendations for the country? Encourage them to not procrastinate and to stay on top of the work. We will have several check points along the way to keep them on track.
Some students may show a zero in the gradebook - not everyone put all their team member names on the documents they turned in. I will remedy that when I find out what team they are on.
Senior Activities
Make sure your student has taken the SAT or ACT (or both). They also need to be filling out college applications. In February, after you have done you income taxes, you will need to sit down with them and fill out the FAFSA. Many scholarships will require that the student has this filled out. It is a good time to be looking at scholarships as well. Some scholarship lists I have found are posted in Schoology on the course page. This is a wonderful list of resources. Also, students need to volunteer for PTO events as our PTO gives out many scholarships at the end of the year.
Dress Code
Please remind your student to be in dress code. As part of the WISD dress code, students must wear their ID between their shoulders and their waists and they must be visible at all times. Please encourage your student to be in compliance - they will miss too much instruction if they are removed for dress code.
Thank you
I am thoroughly enjoying having your child this year. Thank you so much for sharing them with me. This class is very bright and motivated and they truly are a pleasure to work with.
