WAUNKEE COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT EQUITY STATEMENT: The Waunakee Community School District embraces the differences among our students, staff, and families. We work to provide a safe environment with access to resources, opportunities, and instruction for all students to reach their full potential in the classroom and beyond. We strive to create a culture of dialogue, acceptance, and inclusion. We are committed to engaging all students so that they may thrive academically, socially, and emotionally in an ever-changing multicultural society.
Rotary Exchange Host Families Needed
The Waunakee Rotary Club will be hosting a high school aged girl from Mexico for the 2023-2024 school year. They are seeking families who would be willing to host this student for next school year. Rotary would like three families to share this responsibility so the student receives three different experiences during her stay, and it keeps the stay at any one home to about four months.
If you are interested in being a host family, or want to discuss this opportunity and learn more, please contact Carol Bleifield from Waunakee Rotary at dfbleifield@yahoo.com. Thanks for considering.
Co-curricular Attendance Rules Reminders
The attendance policy of the WCHS Co-curricular handbook applies to all co-curricular athletic teams, performing arts groups, and student clubs. Participation in high school athletics, performing arts, and student clubs is a privilege and in order to earn that privilege students must meet the attendance requirements of the WCHS Co-curricular Handbook.
In order to practice or participate, a student must be in attendance at school by 11:55 am. If a student cannot be in school for reasons other than illness, the absence must be pre-planned and approved by the principal, activities director, or assistant principal for the student to practice or participate that day.
This policy also applies to Seniors with Sign-out privileges. Seniors with 18 year old sign-out privileges must be in attendance by 11:55 am to participate in that day’s activities (practice, game, or performance). The same standard will apply to Seniors who sign-out during 3rd and 4th hour as other students: to participate the absence must be pre-planned and approved by a high school administrator.
Finally, a student with an unexcused absence, in-season, is ineligible to participate in the next contest/performance of their co-curricular. Unexcused absences include but are not limited to: skipping school, having someone other than a parent/guardian excuse an absence, or being present in the school building but refusing to attend your scheduled classes.
If parents or students have attendance questions they should speak with their Associate Principal.
