PCR-3 2021-22 OPENING PLANS
On August 12, the Board of Education finalized the School Opening Plan for the start of the 2021-22 school year. At this time, face coverings will be required for all students, staff, and visitors ages 3 and older while indoors at Platte County School District buildings.
What this means:
- Face coverings will be required in all PCR-3 buildings starting August 13, 2021.
- Face coverings should be worn when entering our buildings and when moving about in buildings. When physical distancing can be maintained, persons are actively eating or drinking, or when physically exerting, face coverings may be removed.
- In general, people do not need to wear face coverings when outside, including recess for elementary students.
- Face coverings will continue to be required for all individuals on a school bus per federal order.

TRANSPORTATION
Chromebook Insurance
If you did not register for Chromebook Insurance during Registration, we highly encourage you to do so as this gives you insurance protection and allows your child to take their Chromebook home. Click on the link here for more information and to register your Chromebook. Here is a video to walk you through the process. Feel free to call our office if you have any questions.
PE Clothes Clarification
Changing out will not be required for PE, but students do have the option to do so if they wish. The only requirement will be for students to be wearing clothes and shoes that allow them to participate without distraction. We will be limiting the number of students allowed in the locker room at one time, and lockers will not be assigned or reserved. If a student wishes to dress out and would like to use a locker during class, they will be allowed to do so if they bring a lock to use. We are not responsible for any lost items.

EQUITY AND INCLUSION STRATEGIC PLAN; PARENT ADVISORY
- Goal 1 (Culture of Belonging): Develop and refine processes that ensure a culture of belonging as measured by survey results and participation data
- Goal 2 (Equity of Access): Develop and refine processes that ensure equitability and inclusion in all schools and school-based activities as measured by survey results, process fidelity, participation data, and performance data
This plan was developed with the Superintendent's Cabinet, District leadership, the District's Parent Advisory and the Staff Equity and Inclusion Committee, and presented to the Board of Education for review and feedback. At this time, we are accepting additional interest to serve on our Parent Advisory. If interested, please complete the following form. After an initial informational and on-boarding session in September, the advisory will meet quarterly.

Middle School Lockers (Repeat)
Hallway lockers in grades 6-8 will not be used. Beginning September 20th, parents will be able to submit a request for a locker and administration will review the rationale when taking the request into consideration. This request form will become available via Barry News when that date gets closer.
After the 2020-2021 school year, we saw many benefits to allowing students to use their backpacks throughout the day instead of requiring them to use a locker. These takeaways were shared with our Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) and our student advisory group (Principal’s Advisory Team - PAT). The positive takeaways from not using the locker were:
Students being tardy to class was almost nonexistent.
Reduction in students needing to leave class to get supplies from their locker.
Significant decrease in congestion in the hallways.
Reduction in conflict in the hallways.
The one concern raised was the weight of the backpack. Fortunately, classrooms at Barry are clustered by grade level. Specials are the only classes that require a further distance to travel. Ultimately, students do not typically have a backpack on for more than 1-2 minutes at a time. Additionally, our teaching staff will provide clarity for each grade level regarding which school supplies are needed daily, which items should stay at home as a back up, and which supplies should be kept in class. This should help address the concern.
6th Grade Transition Night for Parents (Likely Virtual)
Wednesday, August 25 (6-7 pm)
Each year, our 6th grade team goes over with parents how middle school is different. The purpose of the night is to equip them with any necessary information to assist in making the transition. This year, our 6th grade team will be sending out a video for parents to watch. Then, on Wednesday, August 25th at 6 pm, our 6th grade team of teachers will be available via either Zoom or Google Hangouts to meet and answer questions. More information to come in the following newsletters.
8th Graders - Required Vaccinations (Repeat)
The state of Missouri requires that all incoming 8th-grade students be vaccinated for Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis) and MCV (meningococcal) prior to starting their 8th grade school year.
All 8th grade students who cannot provide proof of having the Tdap and MCV being given will not be able to start the 2021-2022 school year. Students will NOT receive their schedules at back-to-school events and will NOT be able to start on the first day of school next year until proof of the vaccines being given is provided.
Please reach out to our school nurse with any questions (thomask@platteco.k12.mo.us).
