A Letter from the Principal
Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year!
The summer at Crosby School has been very busy. The days seemed to pass by at a record rate of speed. Our teachers have been working hard in preparing their classrooms and lesson plans that promise to make for another exciting year of teaching and learning here at Crosby. The custodial staff works all summer to clean, re-organize and make repairs as needed. The evidence of their hard work can be seen in every hallway & classroom.
The school’s main office is the “hub” of the school. Our office manager, Mrs. Dunham, works tirelessly to be sure that everything is organized and in place to ensure a safe and smooth opening of school. The office can use your help especially if family circumstances have changed. The three topics that are very important to communicate with the school include transportation, residency, and custody. Some families move over the summer and child care plans change. Early communication with the school will minimize confusion in the opening days. Parents are also reminded to keep the nurse informed of illness, medications, allergies, or any special conditions that could impact your child’s school day.
We will continue to follow a six day schedule. The cycle day and other helpful information is identified on the district website at kingstoncityschools.org. Teachers will communicate the classroom schedules regarding special area classes, snack, recess, and lunch.
Crosby School welcomes a new staff member to the Crosby Family: Mr. Jacob Hefele will teach vocal music. Welcome Jacob!
The Crosby PTO meets on the first Wednesday of the month at 6:00pm. The first meeting of the year is scheduled for Wednesday, September 19th. Parent membership in the PTO is encouraged. The PTO supports most of the activities in the school.
The Crosby Times is the monthly newsletter from the school. It is emailed to families at the beginning of each month (new this year). Paper copies are available. It includes lunch menus, calendar items, notices from the PTO, requests for volunteers, and other items of interest for parents. It’s a great resource!
I look forward to a wonderful school year!
Sincerely,
Kathleen Sickles
Principal
Important Information
Students will bring home a few important documents in the first week of school. Please look for the following items:
- Blue Emergency/Information Card
- The 2019-2020 Parent/Student Handbook
- School District Parent Guide -Information and District Policies
- Application for Free or Reduced Lunch
- Teacher information regarding schedule and classroom procedures
Parents are asked to review the information that is sent from the school and take the necessary action. The blue Emergency card must be returned to school as soon as possible. The pre-printed card identifies all the information that is on file for your child. Please review the card, make necessary changes, sign the card and return it to school with your child. Please note that the school must have a working phone number on file for your child. In the event of an emergency, the school must be able to speak with a guardian or emergency contact.
The Crosby Handbook and the District Policy Book have important information related to school procedures and district policies. It is good practice for parents to discuss school rules and procedures with their children. Please keep all school documents in a location that can be easily accessed for quick reference.
School Security
The safety of all students and staff is always a priority in school. Many adults are on the property at arrival and dismissal. For the safety of all children, parents are asked to adhere to the following protocols:
- Students will enter at the main doors between 8:45 and 8:55am. The doors of the school will be locked at 8:55am.
- After the first week of school, please say goodbye to your child at the front door.
- If a visit to the classroom is necessary, all parents and guardians must sign-in at the office and wear a visitor's pass.
- All visitors should carry identification and be prepared to present their ID.
- At dismissal, students who ride buses depart through the main doors. Students who are picked up are dismissed from the cafeteria.
- Students will not be called to the office after 2:45pm for early dismissal unless it is an emergency.
- Changes in dismissal plans must be communicated in writing. The Crosby note pads are available for your convenience.
School Picture Day
Fall school pictures will be taken on Monday, 9/23. Look for more information in your child's backpack about purchasing student portraits. Volunteer help is always needed on picture day. If you are interested and available, please email the PTO: ercrosbypto@gmail.com.
