Principal's Points!
We are in Fall Swing...
It's almost hard to believe we have been in school for a month! We have successfully gathered together at Open House and look forward to seeing you for Academic Movie Night on Thursday, October 12th. The month of October is full of exciting activities for our scholars. We will recognize National Bullying Prevention, Breast Cancer Awareness, Fire Prevention and Safe & Drug Free Students during Red Ribbon Week!

Home School Connection from the Campus Instructional Coaches
As the Holiday season quickly approaches, let’s keep establishing the love of reading and writing in all environments our children cross through. This month, I challenge you to try something that is not so traditional. Relate reading and writing to something your student loves.
All students love to “play,” right? How about trying to have your child think of one place, person, or thing they L.O.V.E., use old materials (legos, tissue paper, art supplies, cardboard, etc…) to build this place, person or thing they love. Research shows when we engage the students FIRST, our end product is more aligned with what we are looking and wanting. After your child builds their writing topic, have them start to write about it. Bring notice to the details of their object to help expand their writing. I cannot wait to see and read about some of the great ideas our students have!

Dear Parents & Teachers,
We are off to a great start! Thank you for all of your support during the first months of school. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the parents and teachers for a successful Family Friendly Schools & Open House Night! Your attendance shows how vested our parents are in their child’s education. Attending events such as Open House is a great starting place for getting to know the teacher. Now that you have done that, be a team player. You and the teacher have the same goal: for the student to succeed. Finally, stay in touch. Tell the teacher or counselor about any changes in your child’s life. Together, we will partner to ensure your child is successful in school.

October is Anti- Bullying Month
What is Bullying?
Bullying is an aggressive behavior that must include:
1. An imbalance of power such as physical strength, access to embarrassing information, or popularity. This power is used to harm others.
2. Repetition: Bullying behaviors happen more than once or twice.
3. Deliberate: Bullying behavior is on purpose.
How can you (parents) help?
1. Help your kids understand what bullying is.
2. Keep communication open, check in with your child.
3. Model how to treat others with kindness and respect.

Important Reminders
Attendance Matters
Good school attendance is one of the primary indicators of school success. Students cannot learn if they are not in school, so in advance, thank you for ensuring that your child is here on time each day. The first bell rings at 7:30 a.m. and the official start of the school day is 7:40 a.m. Our teachers work extremely hard to prepare and deliver instruction from 7:40 a.m.-3:10 p.m. Unless necessary (medical appointment, family emergency), please do not pick up your child early from school. Every minute of our learning day counts!
Get Involved!
One of the best ways to embrace the new school year is to get involved—both students and their parents. For our students, we have Morning Fine Arts Enrichment, Technology Club, Boys Club, Girls Club, Student Council, Robotics, and more. For parents, joining and participating in PTA is the best way to stay connected to your school and all that is happening. Volunteering in classrooms and the lunchroom/recess gives you a glimpse at what your child is experiencing at school. Please be sure to complete the Volunteer Application (see the Parent section of the Galena Park Independent Schools homepage to access additional information) in order to work with or supervise our students. We are so proud of the Tice community and look forward to our continued partnership with you, our valued parents and guardians, throughout this school year.
Parent/ Guardian Identification
In accordance with district policy, Tice Elementary implements the Raptor system. Visitors will continue to present a Driver’s License, sign in, receive a Visitor’s badge, and have their Driver’s Licenses scanned by the Raptor system. Any guardian picking up a scholar from school will be required to show a government photo ID.
Free and Reduced Lunch Applications
Applications must be completed every school year. Please begin completing an online application or the form sent home. Students receive FREE breakfast all year and will continue to receive FREE lunch until October 31st.
Nutrition Accounts
Please remember to add funds to your scholar's account each week. We still have many past due accounts from the first three weeks of school. We are actively communicating with families regarding past due accounts and payment arrangements.
General Reminders
- The school doors open at 7:00 am for breakfast. In the interest of safety, please do not drop off your children before 7:00 AM, as there is no supervision before that time. Also, please be sure to pick up your children by 3:30 in the afternoon.
- The school day is 7:40 am-3:10 pm.
