Principal's Message
Dear Hoover Families,
It is difficult to believe that we are now entering the last weeks of September, and that we have been in distance learning now since March! Wow! Some people may argue that this may not be the best conduit to providing education to our children, but I can’t help but to be amazed at how long we’ve come to adjusting instruction to meet students’ needs, how much tech has been made available for every student, how classroom procedures have evolved, and how much work our wonderful teachers have put in making this year a success. When I visit your virtual classrooms, I continue to be impressed by the great learning taking place at all grades, and by seeing our students listening and being engaged with their education! Go Huskies!
This week we had the pleasure to have the Mayor of Redwood City Mayor, Honorable Ms. Diane Howard visit our virtual classroom for 2nd graders and it was just a treat! Our Mayor had wonderful things to say about our little Huskies! And I was so happy and proud to see our well-behaved students, asking very respectful and insightful questions! Thank you to our second grade teacher, Ms. Alquero, for making this happen.
I am also fully enjoying being invited into the classrooms to play music and sing. Various studies have found that engagement with music can lead to an improvement in brain development in children, and that students who play a musical instrument are better adapted for neural processing than students who do not. I hope that by sharing my joy of playing the guitar, I can inspire our Hoover students so they will want to learn to play a musical instrument sometime in the near future. Feel free to invite me, I will be happy to visit your virtual class!
October is National Principal’s month, and as such, I would like to share my appreciation to my admin team, Ms. Guzman and Ms. Thompson, who join me in working so hard to continue to make positive changes here at Hoover. I am lucky that they have chosen to be part of our community. I also wanted to express my gratitude to Mr. John Brand for also being part of our community. Mr. Brand is a retired principal who served at various sites in the Redwood City School District and who, for the past many years, has been a staple of fortitude and support here at Hoover. Due to the pandemic, we have not been able to see him around campus, but I express my gratitude for his commitment to the success of our school as well.
I-Ready assessments from September 21st through October 9th.
The district has decided to administer I-ready assessments to grades first through eighth. These very important assessments will begin the week of September 21st and will end on October 9th. It is important that your child signs in consistently, but it is EVEN MORE CRUCIAL that he/she signs in from September 21st through October 9th, to take the assessments. This assessment will provide teachers a great starting data point to determine the best ways to support all students and customize a learning path for progress.
Things to do for the upcoming I-ready assessment
Make sure that your child logs in
Make sure that you support your child in taking these assessments seriously and doing his/her best
Do not give up, do your best! this assessment is adaptive and will adjust to your child's level.
Make sure that you have a stable internet connection
Make sure that your child has a space without distractions so he/she can better focus on the assessment

Familias Unidas Virtual Classes
In response to the coronavirus pandemic, United through Education (Familias Unidas), will offer virtual classes that guide and support the families through the transition to effective distance learning. We will help parents learn how to support and help their children achieve success, focusing on the academic, social emotional, and physical aspects of a healthy life. Parents will learn how to help their children succeed at distance learning by incorporating technology to engage online classes, maintain effective communication with their children’s teacher and school staff and know how to access community resources that provide economic and health support. Familias Unidas provides personalized family support through individual phone calls to help with the transition to an online platform for virtual classes. SPANISH TRANSLATION/TRADUCCION
¡Go Huskies!

Clases Virtuales Familias Unidas
