Families will receive our summer mailing this August with updated bus routes and school calendar. The first day of classes for the 2020-2021 school year is scheduled for Monday, August 31st, with grade 9 orientation scheduled for the Thursday before, August 27th.
Please make sure you are checking your email over the summer, as we will communicate more specific plans for the reopening of school as they become available. The best way to connect with school over summer break would be through email to a member of the administrative team.
Message from Superintendent Evans:
To the Keefe Tech Community,
We are coming to the end of a year that has been like no other. During these last few months, our students and staff have needed to learn new ways of connecting. Our community has also been impacted by events that have demonstrated that a racial divide unfortunately still exists in our nation. In so many ways, this has been an extremely difficult year.
Throughout all of these challenges, I have been extremely proud of our students and staff, not only in their efforts, but in all they do to make Keefe Tech a very special and welcoming community.
We are all anxious to hear from the state regarding plans for the fall. Please know that the school leadership team has been preparing a number of scenarios, and we have been sharing ideas with our sister schools to prepare the most effective and safest plan possible for the 20-21 school year. When we have more information to share, we will certainly do so during the summer months.
I wish all of our families and staff a great summer, and I look forward to sharing brighter days with you in the year ahead.
Sincerely,
Jon Evans
Message from Dr. Snow:
Dear Students and Families:
Congratulations on finishing your first remote learning semester! You all did a great job adjusting to the unexpected events and maintaining your connection to you classes and teachers. On behalf of the teachers and administrators, I want to say thank you for your flexibility over the past few months. I know this has been challenging for students and families, and the strength of the KT community was evident in this difficult time.
We have missed you! We missed hearing the noise of students in classes, the halls and cafeteria, we missed the class discussions, laughter, and we missed seeing you. We are very much looking forward to a time when we can be together again soon. Over the summer, your teachers, counselors and administrators are still around – if you have any questions or if something comes up, please reach out.
As we anticipate returning to school, think about what you missed and what you would like to do differently in the Fall. Maybe now is the time to sign up for a sport or after-school activity, maybe you would like to try out an Honors or AP class, or run for a class officer position; these past few months reminded us how quickly things can change. I encourage you to get involved and make the most of your time in high school!
I wish you all a health, safe and fun summer. We cannot wait to see you all again soon!
Dr. Snow
Summer Reading - Get excited!
Students have a list of books from which to choose; however, they may, in fact, read any high school level book they want. If a student does not want to read from our suggested list, please see the websites we provided for further ideas, or contact any English teacher.
- All students enrolled in a Keefe Tech English class are expected to read at least one book from the list below on the link, or any other high school level book. However, we encourage you to read multiple books throughout the summer.
- All students will be expected to write about your summer reading upon the opening of school in the fall, whether we open in person or do remote learning.
- The purpose of writing about your book is to provide a writing sample for your English teacher and to determine how you are able to compose your thoughts about a book you have read. Your writing will not be part of a term 1 grade.

Celebrating the Keefe Tech Class of 2020!
The Keefe Tech Class of 2020 officially became high school graduates on Saturday, June 6, 2020, during our first virtual and drive-thru graduation ceremony!
A huge thank you to our students, families and faculty for making this event a success. Graduates arrived dressed to impress in their caps and gowns with their families at staggered times throughout the morning. The Keefe Tech parking lot was lined with faculty and staff holding signs and giving our graduates both a warm welcome onto campus, as well as an enthusiastic send-off.
Each graduate was able to walk up to receive their diploma and get their picture taken. Families cheered, recorded videos and took many pictures! Although this was not the graduation any of us had planned, it was a celebratory event and we are very proud of our seniors and excited to see what comes next for each and every one of them.
We also sent home a Class of 2020 Keefe Tech virtual commencement ceremony that included presentations from our co-Valedictorian's, Jenna Lerminiaux and Gabriel Sharon, as well as this year's National Honor President, Jonathan Spalti. Thank you to Ms. Hargrove, Design and Visual Instructor, for putting the video together. Link is shared below.

Another huge thank you to our Booster's Club for sponsoring our 27 in-house awards, as well as the KTEA for sponsoring 10 scholarships! Congratulations to the Class of 2020, you deserve it!

Information from your School Counseling Department
Attention rising seniors!
A few suggestions for this summer to get ready for life after high school....
If you are thinking about attending college when you graduate you should consider starting the following:
- Start your college list on Naviance - you can share this with your counselor
- Check out college websites and see what schools are doing for tours - are they virtual, driving through campus ones with narration, small on-campus tours - schedule your visits!
- Check out the admission's pages on the colleges and universities that you are interested in
- Start and finish your college essays before the school year begins
- Figure out if you want to take the SAT or ACT in the fall - registrations are open and there are more testing dates available. The format will most likely change for these exams and many schools have gone test optional for next year's admission
- SAT website: https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sat
- ACT website: http://www.act.org/content/act/en/products-and-services/the-act/registration.html
- Keefe Tech's School Code is: 220854

Hi Everyone! Well, this certainly isn't the last day of school we had planned, and the summer is surely looking a lot different too. While the summer may not be what we want it to be, I think it's important to try to make the most of it. Hopefully you've been keeping up with your studies and working hard - so now it'll be a good chance to reward yourself with some fun. With social distancing rules still in place, it might make some summertime activities different, but there are still a lot of adventures to be had.
My family likes to make a Summer Fun List each year, so I thought I'd throw out some ideas that maybe you'd to add to your own Summer Fun Lists:
- Discover a new hiking spot.
- Start a blog or create an app.
- Check out a drive-in movie.
- Have a picnic.
- Pick up a new skill or hobby you've always been interested in trying like sign language, painting, or building.
- Look into getting free or discounted passes from your local library to area attractions, like the museums or aquariums when they reopen.
- Take a long bike ride.
- Have an outdoor dance party.
- Camp in your backyard.
- Have themed zoom parties/dinners.
- Walk through a college campus you might be interested in.
- Water Balloon fights (making sure to pick up the remnants)
- Learn how to cook one of your family's favorite meals and surprise them.
- Create an Olympics event with crazy games for you and your friends.
- Spa days at home
- Try Netflix Party and have a movie marathon with friends.
- Write letters or send cards to friends and family. Maybe get a pen pal from far away or a senior at a local assisted living center.
- Community service projects - There are so many ways to help others, so this might be a meaningful part of your summer.
- Spend the day with your younger sibling or niece/nephew. They might love the extra attention and parents will love the babysitting help.
- Visit a waterfall.
- Have a photo shoot with friends.
- Geocaching
- Go through old pictures and make a photo album, collage, slide slow, or scrap book.
- Put together a 1,000 piece puzzle.
- FaceTime or Zoom with a different friend every day. Check in on friends or family you haven't talked to in a while.
- Read a new book every few weeks. Try one of the classic books or a book series.
- Listen to a new podcast or create your own podcast.
- Create specialized play lists of your favorite music.
- Host a game night, either virtual or social distanced in the backyard.
- Start a garden.
- Watch a live concert from home.
- Write and then direct a movie on your smart phone.
- Use sidewalk chalk to decorate your driveway.
- Watch the sunrise and sunset.
- Start learning a new language.
- Clean out your closets and look into donating your clothes you don't wear any more.
- Make a vision board for next school year.
- Try a new form of exercise like yoga, barre, or an old-school aerobics video on YouTube.
- Make a time capsule.
- Learn more about your family's history. Record your family tree and write your family's story.
- Write a family cookbook with all the recipes that you love and are special to you.
- Start a journal, write short stories, compose a song, or even design a comic book.
- Create a scavenger hunt for your friends or even your younger siblings.
- Apply for a summer job or internship.
- Learn TikTok dances and share your videos.
- Watch the movies nominated for Oscars the year you were born. Watch your parents' favorite movies from when they were a kid.
There are so many things we can still do this summer! Whatever you add to your Summer Fun List, we hope you and your family are safe and stay healthy! Remember to wear your masks and practice good social distancing whenever you can. Keep washing your hands too! We are missing you and looking forward to hearing about all your summer adventures when we see you back at school. Be careful out there and take care of yourselves and others too :)
Enjoy your summer!!

AG Healey's Office 2020 Summer Youth Webinar Series!
We are launching an exciting Summer Youth Initiative, the Community Engagement Healthy Summer Youth Jobs Virtually! As summer programming makes a transition to remote work, we will be hosting webinars aimed toward empowering our youth on a variety of different topics listed below. This is our continued effort to educate communities about their rights and responsibilities when they are faced with certain issues, and to bring attention to the resources our office has to offer. As many of you know, we typically do this through in-person presentations and trainings throughout the Commonwealth, but we are excited to offer this initiative on-line to our youth and all communities this year.
