College & Career ~ Ms. Parker, Mrs. Dickerson, and Mr. Thames
In CCS in Ms. Parker’s class, we are working on STAAR prep bootcamp to best prepare our STEAMer’s for their upcoming tests. We will resume our hard work on our PSA project after the conclusion of testing.
Within that review, they will be working on math skills they have learned throughout the year as a refresher, as well as reading practice.
Pre-AP Science ~ Mrs. Goulding and Ms. Mondon
We are extending our knowledge on last week’s learning targets re-posted below.
I can recognize that according to cell theory all organisms are composed of cells and cells carry on similar functions such as extracting energy from food to sustain life.
I can differentiate between structure and function in plant and animal cell organelles, including cell membrane, cell wall, nucleus, cytoplasm, mitochondrion, chloroplast, and vacuole.
Academic Vocabulary: Differentiate, Structure, Function, Organelle, Cell membrane, Nucleus, Cytoplasm, Mitochondrion, Chloroplast, Vacuole, Cell, Cell wall, Cell Theory.
There will be no notes for homework this week but we will have a quiz on Friday.

Pre-AP Math ~ Mrs. Justice
This week we will continue our STAAR boot camp to help prepare for the upcoming STAAR test. Students will have 10 mixed review problems to complete daily for a grade. They will have class time to complete these problems, but if they do not finish them in class, they must complete them for homework. We will grade these daily in class. If your child fails to turn theirs in, a zero will be given.
Accelerated Math ~ Mrs. Baird
We are working on projects to extend our knowledge on concepts learned throughout the year.
No homework should be sent home this week.
STEAM Science ~ Mrs. Cornell
We will be continuing our Life Science Unit. (Science Fusion Unit 10)
Our learning target is:
We will be able to recognize that the broadest taxonomic classification of living organisms is divided into currently recognized domains.
And, identify the basic characteristics of organisms, including prokaryotic or eukaryotic, unicellular or multicellular, autotrophic or heterotrophic, and mode of reproduction, that further classify them in the currently recognized kingdoms
Academic Vocabulary: Classification - Taxonomy - Branching diagram - Dichotomous key - Genus - Species
There will be a quiz this week.
Semester exam review will be posted in google classroom on Monday.

Humanities ~ Ms. Curtis and Mrs. Lindamood
We will be continuing our STAAR boot camp this week, focusing mainly on paired passages. We will use our strategies to find the answers to STAAR-level questions and continue to make inferences about the text, comparing the passages. Students will need to continue with Achieve3000 during their STEAM U times and at home. We will pick back up with our Monday articles after STAAR.
Art ~ Mrs. Bishop
Students have been applying energy ideas to paintings and digital artworks. We have projects going from emotional all the way to mechanical energy. Your children are so creative! This week they will be finishing their work, mounting and tagging art for our art show and sharing their work with their peers for feedback and critique.
May 6th is our biggest event of the year. We are having a Talent Show fundraiser ($1 tickets can be bought this week or at the door) along with our art show at BHS 6:30-7. Every student should have at least one work shown. If students can come view the art (free) and give feedback on post-its, then they can get additional helpful grade. (There will be no penalty for not coming will be given).
Art ~ Mrs. Dickerson
This week we are diving into the pop art “Selfie” project.
Monday - finish segment on Andy Warhol, pick selfie and edit it.
Tuesday - Grid selfie and paper.
Wednesday-Thursday - Begin drawing selfie on paper.
Friday - Start study on Roy Lichtenstein and begin painting
- Also, each day during warm-up we will be focusing on drawing correct proportions of the parts of the face.
- If students wish they may bring a smock to wear when we paint starting Friday.
- Talent show is this Friday at BHS! All art students will have work shown in the auditorium foyer. Come by and see all we have done this year!
Beginning Band ~ Mr. Sypert
This week students will be recording their scale test for auditions and placement into a concert band for next year. It is a big week for them and an important test, please help encourage them and remind them to get their practice in. We will start recordings on Wednesday.
