ELEMENTARY SUPPLY LISTS 2022-23 SCHOOL YEAR
Buckeye Primary Hosts Its First Annual Career Week
This year Buckeye Primary held its first official Career Week in grades K-3. The week was filled with daily activities, read alouds, daily dress up, and guest speakers from the community.
During the week, we had over 30 speakers talking to our students about a variety of careers from healthcare, fine arts, science, entrepreneurship, and law enforcement. Our speakers did an amazing job, and our students were so excited to learn all about the many different careers that are available to them when they grow up!
The week was a huge hit and we are looking forward to making this an annual event for our students. Thank you to all of our parents who took time out of their busy schedules to take part in this educational event for our students.

Wind Turbine Project
Sixth grade students in Mrs. Abraham’s class were challenged to design working wind turbines that would turn off and on based on sensor input. The students use our EV3 Robotics kits supplemented with any Lego pieces that they chose for their design. They learned the basics of programming using the Lego Mindstorm software, including creating a continuous problem solving “loop”. Each wind turbine was a unique, creative design!
Genius Hour
The Genius Hour model includes researching a topic, learning new information, and then presenting and/or demonstrating their topic to the class. By sharing their information, students learned more about a wide variety of topics including various sports history, oceans, skateboarding tricks, dirt bikes, animation, musical instruments, crocheting, animal safety, video game design, art techniques, dinosaurs, RC cars, different types of species, horseback riding, candy, slime and fishing, just to name a few. The presentations and demonstrations led to many discussions and questions from the students.
Original Song and Music Video Created by Students
Miss Leska’s 5th grade general music classes are excited to present their original song and music video,“Under the Moon” on Friday, June 3rd.
For 3 months and to make this project come to life, Mrs. Alexander’s, Mrs. Bowles’ and Mrs. Vetrick’s students incorporated concepts such as: meter, creative movement, tone, mood, song structure, collaborative writing, poetry, spoken word, pick-up notes and syncopated rhythms. They also developed an understanding of how to work together using multiple instruments with different qualities of sound, proper singing, cues from a conductor/director; along with the process of filming and audio recording.
Each class was given an opportunity to create the story of importance to appreciate our surroundings and all aspects of life through these mediums.
The lyrics could also be presented in the form of a children’s story book. Patience and work ethic made this experience worthwhile.
The music video will be found on Miss Leska’s YouTube channel. We hope you enjoy every moment. Have a beautiful summer!

Natalie Tidy, BPS Student of the Month for April 2022
In the month of April we focused on the competency “Integrity”. When you show integrity you do the right thing even when no one is watching, you are honest and you keep your word. Natalie Tidy is a current third grade student at Buckeye and tonight is her music concert. She would never let her class down by not attending, so tonight she is the true picture of integrity.
From her teacher Mrs. Hager: When I think of the word “Integrity '' Natalie TIdy is who pops into my head immediately. The definition of Integrity is the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness. Natalie is a strong leader in the classroom when it comes to this. Natalie always follows the classroom rules, as well as the Buckeye Basics. She is always using good manners and is respectful to anyone she interacts with. Natalie will often help remind students to do the right thing and follow the rules. She works hard and always is willing to help her teacher and her peers. I am so lucky to have Natalie in my classroom this year. She is a role model for other children and a perfect example of having integrity.
Leah Droes, BIS Student of the Month for May 2022
Leah Droes is our student of the month for Buckeye Intermediate School because she is an excellent role model for our students. Her leadership, integrity, and critical thinking skills helps other students learn and be kind to others.
Students like Leah are why Buckeye is a special place. Leah took the initiative to make a Kindness Choice Board for the students and staff here at Buckeye Elementary. Her board has two boxes, one for students to write positive messages to each other. The other box is for students to take a positive message to help brighten their day.
A teacher shared the following: Leah is a wonderful fifth-grade student! She could be the model for our Portrait of a Buck! She approaches all tasks with a smile and a positive attitude. She is always willing to lend a helping hand to students and staff alike. She not only completes all of the work that is required of her to the best of her ability, she willingly takes on any challenges that are presented to her. She was the first to complete both our optional 20 Book Challenge and optional Genius Hour Project. She shows compassion for others and always treats those around her with kindness and respect. She is a true pleasure to have in class!
Leah is an amazing person, and like it was stated before, Buckeye is a great place because of students like her.

On Wednesday, July 13, the camp will conclude with a Kids Arts Fest from noon to 1:30pm on Medina’s Square. Lunch will be available for purchase from Medina Kiwanis.
Each class will be taught by local professionals with the assistance of volunteers. The arts experiences include:
