A word from Mr Broom.

What a busy week! Firstly, a big thank you to everyone involved in our Young Voices trip on Tuesday. We managed to avoid the snow and we had a wonderful evening. Our children were a real credit to us and I was especially proud of them.

I visited a school in York on Thursday to watch a maths mastery teacher who was visiting from Shanghai! Lots of the principles of learning saw fit well with our maths text book approach to mastery in the subject and it's great to know that our teachers are well on the way to improving outcomes in the area. I would also like to thank our Y6 parents who attend the SATs briefing on Thursday evening.

Finally, we have our Peer Review on Wednesday. This is when visiting headteachers come to look at teaching and learning in school and give us points for development and areas to celebrate. I'm sure you will see some of them on the playground before school. It's a little bit like an inspection and I'm looking forward to some high quality external opinion on where to develop school next. After all, we've come a long way since September.

Good Luck to Mrs Dulling

At Easter, Mrs Dulling will be leaving us after 21 years at Sherburn Hungate. I'm sure you will join us in wishing her all the very best for the future. Mrs Dulling is looking forward to spending time with her family.

Rev. Otter

I'd also like to say a massive thank you to Rev. Martin Otter, who will be leaving the parish in the next month to take up a role in York. Martin has been a governor and regular visitor to Sherburn Hungate for the past five years and we wish him well in his new role.

A special Thank You to the Co-Op

I'd like to thank the Co-op for providing £2103.53 from their Community Fund to help fund our playground markings that were done in the summer.

Volunteer Readers Needed

If you would like to come into school and support our staff with delivering reading to children, please get in touch. We're currently looking at afternoon sessions only.

Proposed Building Development at SHCPS

You may or may not know that we are in the consultation phase with North Yorkshire County Council regarding the expansion of our school to either a 45 place (1.5 form) or 60 place (2 form) per year school. I've displayed the initial plans in our entrance so please feel free to come in and have a look. It's all very exciting!

Proposals include a brand new extension building, together with a new Early Years outdoor learning area and school hall extension. Car park extensions and access will also mean that the Pool View building will also be removed. If things go to plan, the work should be completed by January 2020 at the latest.

Train to Teach with the STAR Alliance

If you thought that you’d missed the chance to train as a teacher, perhaps it is time to think again –with the School Direct programme through STAR Teaching School Alliance, you could train to become a teacher in a local primary school in less than a year.

For those interested, please see the attachment below.

It's important that children attend school regularly and at Sherburn Hungate, we recognise that excellent attendance leads to excellent achievement. Fact!

Congratulations to our Year 5 children who are our attendance champions in school this week with 99%.

As you can see below, our attendance in most classes is above the national average which is fantastic. Thank you for your support on this.

The overall attendance this term is 97.2% and is above national averages. Thank you for your continued support with our attendance drive. It is really appreciated.
