Lenape M. S. Smoke Signals
December 9, 2013
Special Persons' Day
On Friday, December 13, Lenape will continue the tradition of welcoming local senior citizens to our middle school. Lenape students will perform a concert for our guests and then serve them lunch and join them for conversation. Lenape is very proud of this tradition and we encourage all students to “dress up” on this day so we can look our best for those visiting our school.
Holiday Book Fair
The Holiday Book Fair will be happening in the Lenape Library next week! There will be tons of books and gift ideas for all ages. Students will be visiting the book fair with their English classes and can also visit before school and during resource with a pass. Cash and checks payable to “Lenape Middle School” will be accepted as payment.
Parent Portal (Infinite Campus)
Effective 12/9/13, password reset functionality will be enabled on the Parent Portal. When users log in to the portal, they will be prompted with a message to update security preferences. It is important that you complete these Security Preferences for your account. These preferences can be changed at any time through the User Account Management section. Those preferences include:
*Changing your Account Password
*Setting your Password Recovery Email
*Setting User Preferences
Once these options are set, if you forget your password, you can use the “Forgot my password” link under HELP on the portal login screen. An email with a unique link will be sent to your email address. Click here for more info.
Homework Request if Your Child is Absent
If your child is absent from school, please visit your child’s teachers’ websites for homework information. Students may also contact classmates to get homework and information missed while they were absent. You may also contact the guidance office on the third day of an extended absence to request homework for your child. Please allow teachers and the guidance office a minimum of 24 hours to gather work for students who have an extended absence.

To Parents/Guardians of all Students currently in 7th Grade PE:
Scoliosis screening is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, January 6th and 7th during PE class. As per the State of Pennsylvania, all students will be screened. If you do NOT wish your child to be checked for scoliosis, please send a written note in with your child.
Seventh grade students who are not screened at this time will be screened in the 3rd marking period. You will be informed when those dates become available.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact our school nurse, Mrs. Greenberg by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at 267-893-2840.
7th Grade Students & Immunizations
All students in Grade 7 are required to have documentation of a Meningitis Vaccine and Adult booster Tdap Vaccine. If you have not provided that documentation to the Nurse’s Office, please do so as soon as possible. If your child has not yet received these vaccines, please send in the date of the immunizations as soon as they are completed. You may check your child’s immunization status on the parent portal, under the “Health” tab. These are mandates of the State of Pennsylvania. Students who do not have these immunizations on file will be excluded on May 1, 2014. A reminder letter was sent home earlier this year and another one will be sent again after we return to school following the winter break.
Thank you, in advance, for providing the required documentation.

Lenape’s Peer Tutor program has been very busy this year. We would like to involve more students as Peer Tutors. If your child has an interest in volunteering and is a solid student in math, Spanish, or French, please encourage him/her to pick up an application in guidance. Since we are open all year on Tuesdays and Thursdays, students may choose to volunteer after school when it works for their schedules. Contact Mrs. Schmon if you have any questions about Peer Tutoring email@example.com or 267-893-2812
