(The location at SHS will be determined closer to the practice date.) District 103 transportation will not be provided and students are responsible for their own transportation.
Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR)
The state requires that IAR be taken in person by ALL students. Grades 6-8, remote and in-person students will be tested at DW from Monday, May 24, 2021 through Friday, May 28, 2021. Use the following link to access the daily schedules for each grade level and learner type.
Please note daily schedules for both in-person and remote learners include BOTH at home and in person instruction. In person students will test in the morning at DW and then travel home. Remote students will travel to school mid-day and test in the afternoon at DW. This requires in person students who are driven to school to be picked up each day at 11:30 a.m.
If you have a child who is learning remotely, and will not be able to attend school in-person for the required assessment(s), please complete the IAR/ISA Remote Student form.
End of Year Multi-Grade Level Activities!
The DW staff continues to find ways to nurture connections between our in-person and remote learners to enhance a sense of community during this unusual time. Although all students will be doing state testing in person, we wanted to offer additional opportunities for our remote students to connect with others. We continue to finalize event details, but below are some highlights:
SEL Mix-It-Up days to allow pods to interact with others.
Weekly color war activities bringing together in-person and remote learners through live streamed games, competitions and service projects.
After school activities such as track, wrestling and soccer are open to remote students..
Band, orchestra and choir are planning in person ensemble performances and end of year celebrations that will bring all learners together.
The directors of the DW Musical are excited to plan an in person cast party for both remote and in-person learners.
June 1, 2021 During the school day all remote and in-person students (grades 6-8) are invited view this year’s musical, "Road Trip: Daniel Wright’s Musical Revue!" held on site at DW. Students will also participate in the Color War Parade and Color War Fun Run.
June 3, 2021, Drop in Open House (9-12) for last year’s 2020 graduates!
June 4, 2021 sixth-grade Spring Fling activities and celebration during the school day; remote learners are encouraged to attend.
June 4, 2021 seventh-grade Picnic and Celebration at North Park during the school day; remote learners are encouraged to attend.
iPad Collection
The tech department will be collecting iPads and chargers from students at the end of this school year; sixth- and seventh-grade students will be allowed to keep their iPads until the last day of school. If any of the sixth- and seventh-grade students will be attending summer school they will be allowed to keep their iPads until the end of summer school. Any eighth-grade student (remote or in-person) who attends the Color War parade on June 1 will return their iPads on that day. Remote students who do not attend the parade will return their iPads Monday, June 7 and Tuesday, June 8 at Daniel Wright.
Celebrating the Class of 2020 June 3 Open House!
Yes, the Class of 2020! We realize that last year’s graduating class missed many usual end of year opportunities and we would like to invite students from last year’s graduating class to visit Daniel Wright on June 3rd from 9:00 a.m. to Noon. The “open house” will be a drop in format and students would be responsible for transportation to the school. 8th grade teachers will be outside to greet students and sign last year’s yearbooks. Students can also get a tour of the new spaces at DW. Please help us spread the word by letting you siblings, neighbors and friends know about our 2020 Open House.
