RNE Families: Join the international movement December 7-13!

What is the Hour of Code?

The 'Hour of Code™' is a nationwide initiative by Computer Science Education Week (csedweek.org) and Code.org (code.org) to introduce students to computer science and computer programming through hour-long self-guided tutorials and activities. While the opportunities are available year round, #hourofcode provides the opportunity every December to participate at the same time as millions of students around the world!

Why code?

We live in a world surrounded by technology. And we know that whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly hinge on understanding how technology works. But only a tiny fraction of us are learning computer science, and less students are studying it than a decade ago. Coding provides students with an opportunity to learn the basic science behind the technology while cultivating creativity and problem-solving skills.

What can we do at home?

Many Roswell North classrooms are already signed up to participate in Hour of Code, but the experience is not limited to school! Learners of any age (including parents and grandparents) can participate. Check out the tutorials and related activities below!
