Seeley's Scoop

September 6

Reading

We will continue to discuss how to choose "Just Right" books to read during reading workshop each day and bring home each night. We will continue to practice reading and writing our letters, as well as sounding, blending, and spelling short vowel words focusing on the short "i" sound. Sight words will be coming home on Monday in the "Homework" pocket of the TEAM book. Please practice these words. I will test every other week and move each student accordingly.

Writing

A key component to our first grade language arts program is journal writing, as well as writer's workshop. This week we will be finishing our "All About Me" piece. We will focus on using a capital letter to start each of our sentences and punctuation at the end of our sentences.

Math

We will continue to practice the number combinations for 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9. We will be using the counting on strategy to solve our problems.

Social Sciences

We will look at what makes a Good Citizen. Our character trait this month is Responsibility.

Special Requests

Thank you so much to those who have sent in paper towels and Kleenex! We are still in need of Clorox wipes and candy to fill our candy jar (Hershey kisses, Starbursts, Smarties, BlowPops...) Thanks again!
