Principal's Note - "Stay Diligent"
In the meantime...remember to stay diligent in checking your child's grade. Don't just take their word for it. Look in Schoology for yourself. In our effort to help our families, Mrs. Ellick and I have met with several parents, and we often hear them reflecting, "I really should have checked his grades myself. He kept telling me that he was doing fine and keeping up with everything."
We don't want anyone to be surprised when report cards are shared on February 11th. There are about 10 days left in Quarter 2. Take the time right now to have your child sign into Schoology. Look at the grade report. Are most assignments complete? What is their grade? If they have skipped assignments, have them make up a few each day until they are all caught up. There is still time for them to catch up and experience success.
A Note from our School Counselor, Mrs. Coale
Happy 2021! Our Blue Jays have been hard at work! Their commitment to learning is like no other. We look forward to exploring the following themes:
IGE- 3 and Pre- K/ SCARED: We will tune into to how our body signals fear and rehearse coping strategies to help us return to ‘neutral.’
2nd Grade: Is it ever okay to interrupt…we are going to decide together. (2nd grade had their safety lesson in December as scheduled)
K, 1st, 3rd, 4th, & 5th Grades: We will reinforce safety rules and identify trusted adults. Separate communications were shared in both November and December. Along with being posted within your child’s teacher’s Schoology site:

Return to School Questionnaire
As we prepare for the reentry of students, we are requesting your feedback regarding your choice for your child(ren) to return to school. Many of you have already completed the survey; however, we realize as events continue to evolve your decision may have changed.
We are asking everyone to complete the survey again to provide the school system with the most up to date information. Please click on the following link:
https://survey.k12insight.com/r/returntoschools
If you have multiple children in BCPS, please complete the survey once for each student. The questionnaire is scheduled to close on January 26, 2021. Families who do not complete the questionnaire will have their student(s) automatically enrolled in full-time virtual learning, with the option to change that decision at a later designated time after students begin to return to a hybrid learning environment.
Yearbooks
With the uncertainty of when students will actually be returning to the building. We have decide to do a fall 2021 delivery of the yearbook. This means that instead of getting a yearbook in June before school dismisses, the book would deliver mid-August to early Sept. With a fall delivery book, this would allow for spring class portraits to be included, and give us the most amount of time to include all types of content like Field Day, 5th Grade Farewell, Spring Musical, etc. At the end of the school year, we will provide all students with autograph inserts, so that they will be able to have that activity before school dismisses for the summer.
The Yearbook Staff invites students, parents, faculty and staff to submit photos for this year's yearbook of virtual learning, movement breaks, community events, students with their masks on, or just having fun to hshiflett@bcps.org.
Yearbooks may be purchased by going to ybpay.lifetouch.com and entering order#1742821.
