Information Literacy + Digital Citizenship Embedded in Curriculum

Set up a time to meet with Mrs. Graham to plan research projects for your classes. An important role of teacher-librarians is "assisting teachers and students to navigate, critically evaluate and select from the ocean of information in digital and physical formats" (Teachers Connecting with Teacher Librarians website, Georgia Phillips). Examples of lessons:

  • Evaluation of Sources

  • Citations

  • Note-taking

  • Plagiarism

  • Internet Searches - How to use Google/KidRex/Kiddle (No Bing)

  • Digital Product creation

Go To Resource: Destiny

The WHES Destiny Library Homepage is your go to source for great resources and links that Mrs. Graham shares with students and teachers. Looking for a certain book? Select the Catalog tab at the top of the Home page to search the WHES library catalog. Find Destiny on your laptop under Teacher menu, Student Menu OR follow the link below.

"Foster Reading as a Life-Long Activity"

As outlined in Barbara Braxton's article "The Teacher-Librarian As Literacy Leader", librarians are ideal partners to encourage and develop young readers. Mrs. Graham can recommend the latest series, give booktalks to your class, or pull resources for a curriculum unit. Teachers are welcome to request specific book titles to add to the collection. Let's work together to create a strong culture of literacy at WHES!

South Carolina Book Awards

A great way to promote literacy and create a classroom culture of reading is through participation in the South Carolina Book Awards program. All of the titles are available in the WHES library. Read these titles with your students! Students that read at least eight of the Picture Book Award nominees and at least three of the Children's Book Award nominees will be eligible to vote for their favorites in February.
