Mechanical Engineering
Creating devices that generate and consume power.
What Its All About
Mechanical engineering focuses on the research, design, development, and production of a variety of machines and devices. These machines can vary from power generators, to machines in assembly lines.
The Education Needed
To become a mechanical engineer, one must have a bachelors degree. This bachelors degree must cover many subjects, such as thermodynamics, hydraulics, and fluid mechanics. Basic understanding of civil, electrical, and chemical engineering is expected as well.
Starter Salaries
Bachelor's
Mechanical engineers earn a median annual salary of ~$80,000.
Master's
Mechanical engineers with a masters degree earn a median annual salary of ~$94,000.
Docterate
Mechanical engineers with a doctorate earn a median annual salary of ~$115,000.
What To Expect
Its hard to expect what a day in the life of a mechanical engineer will be. there can be many different tasks a mechanical engineer will do, mostly they will be working on a long term project. These projects are multi-step and assigned by people within the company or 3rd party companies. These projects can vary greatly in task and process.
