Oakland Elementary School

Rockin' Through the School Year!

10.22.21

Hello Oakland Families,

We hope that this finds you all healthy and well! Please make sure that you are sending your child with clothing that will account for the cooler temperatures. It is also recommended that you label your child's outdoor wear with their names on the tag. Our Lost and Found is already filling up with jackets and sweatshirts. If the articles are labeled, they can find their way back to their owners more easily. Enjoy the fall weekend ahead!

Sincerely,

Rebecca Adams - Principal

Lindsay Burns - Assistant Principal

Student / Family Conferences

Veteran's Day

We will be having information sent home soon for special stars that we will ask you to fill out with the names of your Veteran family members (and photos, too!). We will be proudly displaying these throughout the building for all to see those that have served. Our Boosters will be having a fall event on Friday, Oct. 15th. We will have extra stars available for you to pick up then, too! Please be on the lookout for these stars being sent home.

We appreciate your assistance in helping us to honor all of our Oakland Extended Family that have served.

Thank You!

A huge thank you and shout out goes out to our amazing Boosters and all the volunteers that helped to put on a fun Fall Fest last Friday! Thank you to all of our families that were able to attend. We had so much fun and are so glad that you were able to join us!

Band / Orchestra Fundraiser

On Monday, October 25th, we will have our first Band and Orchestra Fundraiser at Antioch Pizza!

If you show the attached flyer next Monday (10/25), Antioch Pizza will donate 15% of the proceeds to our District 34 Band and Orchestra Boosters. Both the Lindenhurst and Antioch locations will be hosting this fundraiser for us.

Please feel free to share with families, friends, or anyone who enjoys pizza! Thank you in advance for your support!

AAC Awareness Month

October is International AAC Awareness Month! The goal of this month is to raise awareness of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) and to inform the public about the many different ways in which people communicate. AAC can come in many forms: devices, switches, communication books, or picture boards! AAC serves the purpose of helping users to request, protest, share, socialize, express, and so much more.

This three-minute video offers a nice overview of AAC: https://youtu.be/zmsdLzQW5G0.

Reminders: Party Guidelines - Fall Fest Halloween

Students will be allowed to bring their costumes with them on Friday, October 29th. They will have a time that they are able to change into them. Please be advised of the following costume guidelines (students will only be in their costumes for a very short amount of time):

  • Costumes must be school appropriate
  • Please be mindful that we have little kids here - please don't send scary costumes
  • No weapon-like accessories are permitted
  • Please refrain from costume masks that cover the entire face - our every day face masks will still need to be worn
  • Please do not send your child with hair coloring or face make-up for school

If you child wishes to bring in a "treat" for their classmates, please abide by the following guidelines:

  • Treats must not be food or candy items
  • There must be enough of the item to make sure that everyone in their class is able to receive the item
  • If you are unsure if the items you are thinking of would be acceptable, please reach out to your child's teacher
