Bond Info & Events

Jean Road Lane Closures Throughout the Summer

Beginning in June, when LOSD receives its City permit, traffic on Jean Road will be impacted by lane closures. Traffic flaggers will be present. Improvements to Jean Road will include:

  • Widening the east half to create turn lanes for the school parking lot

  • Undergrounding all electrical and telecommunications utilities & new tie-in to city utilities

  • New street lights and sidewalks

  • Temporary relocation of the crosswalk for the 2019-2020 school year from Schalit Way to Hill Way

  • A flashing crosswalk signal will be added at the crosswalk

  • Temporary sidewalks will be provided for pedestrian traffic between Central Avenue and Bryant Road

  • Total work is expected to take 4 months

What is a good detour during that time?

  • Bryant and either Lakeview or Boones Ferry around the north side

  • Pilkington, Childs and Bryant around the south side

School Board News & Notes

New Equity Policy Adopted

On Monday, June 3, the Lake Oswego School Board made history by adopting an equity policy. The policy gives the entire community a vision for how our number one goal in the strategic plan is to be governed. You can find the policy here:

Middle School Name Changes to Be Phased In Over Time

On Monday, June 3, the Lake Oswego School Board voted to accept the district’s recommendation to change the name of each junior high to middle school to identify the teaching and learning philosophy at each school. This decision reflects input received from parents and staff who were polled by school administrators. The name of Lakeridge Junior High will not change until the new building is built, but we want to communicate early and often. Superintendent Lora de la Cruz explains further that, “We honor the traditions and history of LOSD. We understand that some people still say Waluga in reference to Lakeridge Junior High, just as some people will still say LOJ in reference to Lake Oswego Junior High, even when the name changes to Lake Oswego Middle School in the future. We know that change takes time, and as we rebuild our middle schools over time, the names will accurately represent our middle school teaching philosophies and how the State of Oregon represents our schools on the State Report Card.”

Online Verification is Coming Soon

The District is excited to roll out a new online verification process this summer. LOSD parents will be invited to log into ParentVUE to review and update important information for their students for the 2019-20 school year. The District will save money by not printing and mailing paper verification forms for all its students. Look for more information in the coming weeks.

Parent Email Addresses will change Mid-July

If you will no longer have students in Lake Oswego schools for the 2019-20 school year (i.e., if your last child graduated or if you are moving), your email address will be removed from school and District lists automatically as enrollment records are updated over the summer in mid-July. We greatly appreciate your assistance in not requesting manual removal of your email address from our database. Please delete any unwanted messages. We make an effort to send limited messages during the summer. Thank you for your patience.

Hallinan Test Kitchen Update

In the month of May, Food Services hosted a test kitchen at Hallinan by offering more allergy-friendly, house-made and organic items. The results are just coming in and being analyzed, but overall it was a hit.

Some of the more popular new offerings included Rice and Beans with chips (Vegetarian, Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free), Pulled Pork Sandwich, Beef Sliders (made with all-natural Painted Hills Beef), Chicken Street Taco’s (Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free with no cheese), French Toast w/organic blueberry compote, and Cheese Calzone.

We are excited to be able to expand these offering next year to all the elementary school menus.

August/Sept menu is already posted on our website. Check it out!

Have a delicious summer.

Regular & Repeated Reminders

If parents are ever concerned about a student’s well-being, feel free to reach out to your principal. It is important to keep your lines of communication open and maintain strong partnerships between students, families, staff, and other resources.

SafeOregon also is an effective way to report a tip regarding safety threats or potential acts of violence to our students or schools.

(Students should also know that intentionally providing a false report is a serious offense.)
