Newsletter Week 8 Term 2
Pekapekarau Primary School - 23rd June 2022
Kia ora ē te whānau
We hope you all enjoyed the Pekapeka exhibition yesterday and the opportunity to come and join together again. We loved being able to finally have whānau come and see what we have been learning about Pekapeka. We hope you were able to pop in and see some of the amazing art and some of the purakau (stories) our tauira (students) have written. It was a fabulous event and our team appreciated all the positive feedback from you all. As a Tumuaki, I am incredibly proud of how our team work together to create these opportunities for our tamariki. Special thanks to our volunteers who provided kai and glow sticks, and particular thanks to Kiri Burgess, Sarah Wrightson, Kylee and Wannak Pheng who were supported by Kath Grindrod to make the fundraising component a success.
Winter is upon us! We have large numbers of our tamariki and staff absent with a range of illnesses which is disruptive with relievers being extremely difficult to find. We appreciate that you are doing the right thing and keeping your children home if they are unwell and know that this is something lots of schools are experiencing at this time.
Our kaiako are starting to write their reports which will be sent home at the end of the first week of term 3 to update you on their progress for the first half of the year. Following this there will be an opportunity for you to meet with kaiako to discuss the report and set goals. We will share information about this with you closer to the time.
As you may be aware, Te Awamutu College are reviewing their enrolment zone and as part of the process are seeking community feedback. Please take the time to do this by accessing the link here https://consultation.education.govt.nz/education/te-awamutu-es/
As we end this short week in celebration - I extend to you all - Mānawatia a Matariki! If you are wanting to know more about matariki check out Professor Rangi Matamua’s website which has some amazing https://livingbythestars.co.nz/pages/matariki-faqs. Our tamariki will also be able to share their knowledge about matariki with you, too. Today they are celebrating together with a hangi, courtesy of our Ka ora, Ka ako lunch suppliers BiteLab - we are hoping it is as delicious as last year! Enjoy Matariki with those you love - celebrating the first ever day which is unique to our culture of Aotearoa/New Zealand.

The school board elections are coming up with nominations opening mid July. We will share more about that process soon. For now, we would like to invite anyone interested in running for the Pekapekarau School Board to meet with the Board to ask any questions and see what the work of the Board looks like.
Our Chairperson, Erinna Lane will be in the staff room on Wednesday, 29th June 11.30-12noon and Monday, 4th July 5.30pm-6pm to catch up with any interested nominees.
If these times do not suit, please email botchair@pekapekarau.school.nz to ask any questions or make another time.
We are welcoming new enrolments to our Kura! Do you know someone who is interested in enrolling their tamariki at our school? This also includes out of zone enrolments.
