Phoenix News
Collegiate Academy at TCC Northeast
March 22, 2020
Parents and Students,
This week we have two goals! Students transitioned to online college and high school and close out the semester. We will be contacting students to make sure they have the supplies they need to complete their college courses. It might even include front porch deliveries! We will make sure everyone has what they need by the end of the week, March 27.
You will be receiving an email from the district with information regarding Learning@home with the idea of helping students review content. CA teachers will be reaching out to students to support the end of the 3rd nine weeks.
As for what does the future hold? I don't know. Many have asked about end of year activities and my answer is nothing has been cancelled so far. As we get closer to May, we will be able to make those decisions. We will find a way to celebrate our students either online or face to face or at a later date. The main thing now is to get through the week of March 23 -2 27. We will send a Phoenix News at 7am on Tuesday and Thursday and Sunday while GCISD is closed. Of course if there is urgent news, I will send an update email. We are PhoenixStrong and I am confident we will be just fine! If you have questions, please don't hesitate to ask. The faculty and staff at Collegiate Academy are here for you. We care about your student but we deeply care about our Phoenix Family. A slogan I always use is: together we can make a difference. Let's do it this week!
1. GCISD/Collegiate Academy will be closed through April 3, 2020. All enrichment, review and instruction will take place online.
2. All TCC classes for Collegiate Academy students will move to online the week of March 23. If you have not heard from your professor, you will. Dr. Ayers, Dr. Cooper, and Catherine Carter have been helpful and supportive to make this happen! Thank you! If you have not heard from your professor by Monday afternoon, please let your Pathways teacher know. We will be working next week to provide you with materials and supplies that have been requested by your TCC professor. Please be patient.
3. The end of the 3rd nine weeks will be Friday, March 27, 2020. Students will be given an opportunity to turn in missing work. No new assignments will be given. Your student’s individual CA teacher will be reaching out to their students with more information. I have attached the GCISD Parent End of the 3rd Nine weeks Informational letter. If you have questions, don’t hesitate to ask.
4. We will have more information about the week of March 30 – April 3 at Collegiate Academy next week. This week we are focused on students moving to college online classes, getting them the materials that they need, finishing up the Collegiate Academy 3rd Nine Weeks.
Stay Well!
Always grateful,
Ms. Knutz

SCHOOL COUNSELOR CHRONICLES
Counseling News:
During these unprecedented times it is important to maintain some sense of normalcy. TCC is aiding us in that by ensuring that they will not be changing any of their deadlines moving forward.
That means that TCC’s drop deadline for spring 2020 classes (this semester) will be April 9th and TCC’s fall registration date will be April 20th.
For drops: You CANNOT just drop a class. You must first contact your pathways teacher and Mr. Cavanagh to get approval for the drop. You need to also be aware that depending on where you are in your graduation plan, this decision may take you off track for your Associate’s as well as independent study or Optional Flexible School Day.
For Registration: Mr. Cavanagh and your Pathways teachers will be working to make sure that you still have ownership over your courses for next semester. Make sure that you’re checking your email daily so that you can answer surveys about which classes you may need/want to sign up for. There will still be four year plan meetings they will just occur digitally for the foreseeable future.
For Summer Classes: If you’re interested in signing up for summer classes you should reach out to your Pathways teacher. They have access to a survey that they will send you that will act as an application. YOU MAY NOT TAKE ONLINE SUMMER CLASSES. I know that may seem counterintuitive considering the fact that we aren’t currently allowing face to face classes but our agreement with TCC does not include their online coursework, therefore if you were to sign up for an online course you’d be responsible for purchasing the textbook yourself.
Finally, if anyone is struggling with social emotional needs or is just bored and in need of someone to talk to feel free to send me an email and we can work on setting up a time to meet digitally. Stay safe!
