A Note from Ms. Owens
Students are bringing report cards for second trimester home today. Please be sure to review your student's progress. Then sign the envelope and return it to school. Report cards should stay with you.
Tonight our students making their First Holy Communion are taking their pictures. Boys' pictures will begin at 4:30 and girls' pictures will begin at 5:30. Please gather in the church vestibule. Families will be called down to Kane Hall.
Tomorrow is our first Lenten Fish Fry of the season. Come enjoy a delicious dinner in the Alexandria Center. Doors are open from 4:30-7:30PM and there is a cash bar.
We've all been hearing the news about COVID-19 (the latest Coronavirus). On Tuesday evening, you should have received an email from Dr. Rigg, the Superintendent of Catholic Schools in the Chicago Archdiocese. I've attached a copy of the letter below.
- Please know that we are cleaning common areas throughout the school day - handrails, doorknobs, light switches, handles, etc. Teachers are doing the same with student desks and other items in their classrooms.
- If your child is sick, it is imperative that you keep them home from school and at a distance from other family members.
- Our teachers would be very appreciative of any additional disinfecting wipes, hand sanitizer or facial tissue that you are able to send to school with your child.
- Additionally, if your family is planning on international travel over the coming weeks, especially during Easter Break, please reach out to me directly.
Thank you to all the SCA families who have purchased or sold tickets for the Dream Raffle. The Dream Raffle is one of only two budgeted fundraisers for the church and the school. Selling out all of the tickets goes a long way to help keep tuition increases in check. The first Early Bird drawing is scheduled for Friday, March 6 at the Fish Fry! As a related side note, please be sure all people listed as sellers and purchasers of tickets are at least 18 years old.
Here's what's coming up this week:
- Tomorrow - All School Liturgy & Adoration; SCA Fish Fry
- Friday, Saturday and Sunday - Girls Volleyball playoffs (scroll down for schedule)
- Monday - No school for students; PD for faculty
- Friday - All School Liturgy; Living Stations at 1:30PM & 6:30PM
- Saturday - FSA St. Patrick's Party
- Sunday - South Side Irish Parade
Thank you for all you do to support the St. Catherine community!
Peace,
Kristine Owens

First Grade Family Mass
Our First Grade Family Mass will be on March 29 th at the 9:00am Mass. It is my hope that all first grade students and their parents will attend this special Mass. This will be a “teaching” Mass. Instead of the usual homily, one priest will be briefly explaining parts of the Mass, as the other priest says the Mass.
Some of our students will have the opportunity to be Readers or Gift Bearers. After Mass, there will be refreshments in Kane Hall. After Hospitality, there will be a FAMILY ACTIVITY. During the Activity, parents will help their child create a piece that may be brought out every year as a sign of Easter. You don’t have to be artistic to do this. It’s a great way to spend a little time with your child while experiencing the real meaning of Easter.
Of course, we will need help with our Hospitality. All the jobs are simple and only take about 20 minutes of your time. Please use the sign-up link below to volunteer yourself for one of the Hospitality tasks or to sign up your child if they are interested. Readers must be able to read independently and comfortably.
The readers will practice with the microphone before Mass at 8:30am.

Tuesday Hot Lunch Ordering
The link for placing hot lunch orders is below. Please remember that ordering closes at noon the day before delivery.
There will, of course, be days when parents have ordered a hot lunch and their child is absent. On those days, parents (or another designated person) are welcome to pick up the child's lunch. In order for this to happen, parents must notify the school of the hot lunch pick-up prior to 11 AM and then the actual lunch must be picked up before 12:30 PM. We cannot keep lunches beyond that or send them home with students due to food safety regulations.
