The Falcon's Nest

October 2020

Principal's Corner by Jennifer Updike

Happy Fall Y’All!!!!

I love the change in the weather. My allergies don’t, but I love the cooler weather, watching my son play football, and my daughter cheer, the leaves, and I love that we are still able to come to school. So thank you for helping us by making sure your child knows to wash their hands, stay home if they have a fever or appear to be getting sick, and not sharing the germ love. Thank you!!

We are going to keep up with a tradition we have had here at CMES for about 6 years and that is dressing up for a fall festival on Friday, October 30th this year. Please remember no blood or gore, just fun, and we will still have to wear our masks. We are still working out details as to whether or not we can somehow incorporate a parade safely. The office or your child’s teacher will keep you informed. And no worries if you don’t want to participate! All just for fun and memories!

Thanks to all of you who are able to participate and support our PTO fall fundraiser. This fundraiser supports incentives, students, and teachers. We are really able to go above and beyond for our students and teachers with this fundraiser. Thank you!!!!

Our Communication Hub is the place to go for all updates from CMES.

Fall Break will be...October 16th - No School.

Conferences this year will be virtual or by phone. Conference dates are…..

October 13th - 4:30-7:30pm

October 14th - 4:30-7:30pm

October 15th - All day conferences - No School

Expect to hear from your child’s teacher in the near future for a scheduled time.

Gifted Identification

Students at Clinton-Massie Elementary School take the NWEA’s Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) test to help teachers measure student performance and growth, make informed decisions about student learning, and differentiate content and instruction. The MAP test for grades 2-5 is also an approved test from the State of Ohio for identifying students who are gifted in the specific academic abilities of reading and/or math. A student is identified gifted with a score in the top 95th percentile. Students are typically tested using the MAP test 3 times a year. They are tested at the beginning of the school year as well as during the first two weeks of January and May.

In addition, we offer whole grade testing opportunities for our 5th graders and 2nd graders using the CogAT for superior cognitive identification. Students with CogAT scores of 112 or higher will also be offered the opportunity to participate in creative thinking testing using the Torrance Test of Creativity.

The 3rd Grade Ohio State Test will be given on October 21st and October 22nd.

From the Clinic!

Happy fall! It's that time of year again to get you & your family's annual flu shots! Just as a friendly reminder, please make sure you are checking your child in the morning before coming to school to ensure they do not have a fever, headache, sore throat, persistent cough, difficulty breathing, digestive issues, or loss of smell or taste. We want to keep the school safe for all students and staff and this will help us do that! Please feel free to call us with any questions at all.
