A Message from Mrs. Schneider

Dear Woodland Families,

This week Avondale School District shifted COVID quarantining guidelines to align with state and county guidelines. The district has communicated the new guidelines through emails sent to families. We have created a chart that may be helpful for you and I will link it below.

School districts will no longer be contact tracing. If a positive case occurs in a child's classroom, a letter will be sent to the classroom to notify families. Families are then asked to monitor their child for any symptoms. You do not need to keep your child at home unless they present symptoms. If symptoms present, we recommend that you have them tested. We are providing free COVID-19 testing at the Administration Building (2940 Waukegan, Auburn Hills) for students who have received a school notification of a case in their classroom. Testing hours are from 6:45am-9:00am Monday-Friday.

If your child tests positive or there is a positive case in the household, your child must quarantine for 5 days. Day 1 is the first day AFTER symptom onset or positive test.

In adopting these new guidelines, we are focused on maintaining in-person teaching and learning in a safe and healthy environment. We are asking for your vigilance in monitoring your student’s health and commitment to communicating with us any changes or concerns you may have about their physical well-being.

District Kindergarten Information Night

The district is hosting a Transitional Kindergarten (TK) and Kindergarten information night on February 3rd at 6:30 pm via Zoom.

If you have a child who will be 5 years old by September 1, 2022, they will be eligible to enter TK or K. We encourage you to mark your calendar and attend via Zoom with us. Meet the building principals and district leaders who will be sharing information on:

1. How excited we are to have your student join us!

2. Transitional Kindergarten vs. Kindergarten--What is the best fit for my child?

3. The Enrollment Process and Paperwork Required to Enroll

A zoom link will be posted as we get closer to the event.

Positivity Project (P2)

This week we focused on the Prudence.

What Does Prudence Mean?

This means that you plan for the future and achieve your goals by making careful everyday choices. Prudence is the ability to do the right thing, at the right time, for the right reason. It's a future-oriented way of thinking that helps a person set goals, make plans, and have the discipline to accomplish them. It is cognitive - more a strength of the head than of the heart.

Next week's focus is on Perseverance.

Winter Gear--LABEL each piece

Please remember that we go outside for recess unless it is less than 10 degrees. Students need to have winter coats, boots, hats, gloves, and snow pants. If a child does not bring snow pants or snow boots to school, they have to play on the blacktop only and may miss out on playing on the play structures. Please write your child's name in each of these items. It is much easier to return items with a name inside should they get misplaced. Some families choose to have a pair of snow pants that stay at school rather than having to have them go back and forth.

If anyone needs help with coats, boots, or snow pants, please call the office.

Avondale Positive Covid-19 Cases

In an effort to keep everyone informed about positive COVID cases here at Woodland Elementary, we have included a link to the current number of cases detected in our schools. Individual classrooms will be notified of a positive COVID case in each classroom, should that occur.
