Mrs. Jenkins' Class Newsletter

September 2016

A Letter from our Student Teacher!

Dear Parent(s) and/or Guardian(s),

My name is McKenzie Ross and I am your child’s student teacher for a portion of this semester. Mrs. Jenkins is giving me this opportunity to write the class newsletter for this month. I haven't been in the classroom too long due to the field trip, but aren’t we all so happy for the experience this gave each of your children?! I wanted to start off by showing a few pictures taken while we were there. I had a hard time choosing just a few because there are so many great ones!.If you have the chance, I would strongly suggest heading over to the Edith Bowen Facebook page to check out the rest.

Ask your student what is inside of this thistle- I bet they’ll know!

Our wonderful P.E. teacher giving us a lesson on bug dancing before our busy day of scientific research

I had so much fun on the field trip with your kids, and we’ve had fun in the classroom these past few weeks as well. We have a lot in store this month for our curriculum. In writing I am excited to be co-teaching with Mrs. Jenkins about narrative writing. We will be pulling in our trip to Hardware Ranch by writing about it in the five paragraph essay form. In math we are moving on from place value into rounding.

This last week for reading we talked about reading to ourselves and practiced our stamina. We were able to make it 21 minutes without looking up or being distracted! Hopefully this next week we can make it even longer. We will also be working on reading with partners as part of our Daily 5 program. And last but not least, for social studies we have a great unit coming up focusing on the geography and history of Utah. This will be a great precursor to our field trips for natural resources day as well as the trip to The Great Salt Lake.

Like I’ve said, I am really enjoying teaching and getting to know your students. It saddens me that I can only be with them until the end of October and not any longer! But while we are together we will have fun and learn while we are at it. I look forward to meeting you at carpool, school activities, and in the classroom. Thank you for allowing me this opportunity with your wonderful students!
