Owl Superfan Fundraiser Ends November 4th
We are hosting our first school-wide fundraiser! Our goal is to raise funds for our many clubs and activities at Onslow Early College High School. Most of our students are involved in multiple clubs, so your support is needed!
The fundraiser is through Super Fan. OECHS students received brochures at school today with all of the products for sale. Super Fan has many different cups, bottles, tumblers, and other products in an array of styles. They also have officially-licensed products from your favorite NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, and NCAA teams!
There is a button below that will take you to the online store where you can browse and shop all of their products.
Customers have the option of paying in cash, by check (to Onslow Early College High School), or by debit/credit card.
The sale will end November 4th and products will ship 3-5 weeks after the close of the sale, meaning all products will arrive before our Christmas Break.
We also sent home information for a special order: Our very-own OECHS Tervis tumber for $20! You can find a photo of the OECHS tumbler below. We need to sell 100 of these limited edition Tervis tumblers!
If you would like an OECHS Tervis tumbler, please see one of our OECHS students, or stop by and see Mrs. Kellum in CE 109 at Coastal Carolina Community College.
SPA 111
1. PASS (Peer-Assisted Study Sessions) will begin on Mondays and Tuesdays at 2:00 in CB 102 for OECHS SPA 111 students.
2. Sr. Sandoval will begin tutoring sessions to prepare OECHS students on current class content on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-4:00, in the Spanish classroom.
3. CCCC Spanish instructors will also offer "Lunch and Learn" study sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays. As the title suggests, these sessions will occur during lunch time and will focus on remediation of content covered in the first two SPA 111 tests.
Finally, OECHS students will be permitted to retake a different version of their first two tests in SPA 111. This is optional for all OECHS students in SPA 111. They can retake either of the first two exams, or they can retake both. This is a one-time event. There will be no other retakes.
Retakes will occur in CE 107 at 2:00 on:
November 4th (T/TH students for Exam 1)
November 5th (M/W students for Exam 1)
November 6th (T/TH students for Exam 2)
November 7th (M/W students for Exam 2)
All OECHS SPA 111 students are able to take advantage of the PASS sessions, tutoring, Lunch and Learn, as well as the test retakes. All of these are mandatory for any of the OECHS SPA 111 students that currently have a D or F in the course.
Thank you to the administration and staff of Coastal Carolina Community College for making the opportunities possible!
RISE, 2.8 GPA, and Academic Probation
Of of the new methods to allow students to take Math and English courses is to have an unweighted GPA of 2.8 or more. Another method is to take the new RISE exam. It is a very difficult exam and there are no study guides for it. This exam can only be taken two times in the course of ten years.
Sufficed to say, we need to avoid having to retake another exam or delay admission into Math and English courses! To guarantee that OECHS students stay on pace in their graduation requirements for OECHS and CCCC, they need to maintain a 2.8 GPA.
If students have a GPA below a 2.8, they will be placed on Academic Probation, meaning that they will only be permitted to engage in only one club activity per week. The rest of the club time in the afternoon will be devoted to increasing their grades and overall GPA.
Please contact Mr. Strope (james.strope@onslow.k12.nc.us) if you have any questions!
Yearbook
You can still purchase an OECHS yearbook for 10% off through October 31! Here is the link! The passcode is: 1015039513604174.

If are a sophomore and you would like to have your baby picture featured in this year's yearbook, please bring it in or send it to junior, Emma Wille.

English
English I Honors: This week, students were introduced to conducting research with Coastal Carolina's online databases. Next week, we will continue our study of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet as well as finish up our mini-research projects on Shakespeare. We will begin our modernization of a scene from the play towards the end of next week.
English IV Honors:
Regarding the Graduation Project: Students have had the required forms since the beginning of the semester. The six-week grading period and several students are still missing forms. The zero for the missing items will be replaced when the forms are submitted.
There are a few students who have yet to secure a mentor. The final due date for all forms, products, and mentor log is November 26, and presentations will take place on December 5th. Please help your child manage his or her time to ensure they are prepared to complete this task in a timely manner.
Math
Honors Math 2: Both classes have an average of a 90! Students are exploring topics in geometry focusing on angles formed by parallel lines. There will be a quiz on Monday and students are allowed to create a one page help sheet with definitions, theorems, diagrams, and examples. The rest of the week will be spent learning how to write proper proofs. On Friday students will have a test covering all of the geometry topics that have been covered so far in Units 5 and 6.
Honors Math 4: The first part of the upcoming week we will be learning about vectors. The focus will be on: "What is a vector?", "How to add and subtract vectors graphically and in component form?", and "How do vectors relate to trigonometry?". When we complete vectors we will review the entire unit and take the Unit 5 Test (Thursday or Friday depending on how quickly we move through the material.)
Social Studies
Civics and Economics: : We have finished our study of the Constitution, including its Principles, the Branches of Government, and the Articles and Amendments. Students received their Study Guide on Friday, and we will have our test on Tuesday. This test is rather extensive, so I have encouraged them to spend a little bit of time over the weekend looking over the material. Next week we will be focusing on the Bill of Rights, and we will have a guest speaker from Coastal Carolina Community College come and talk to the students about Due Process and how our rights are protected as citizens. We will move into our next topic of the year which will be the Presidency. As we move into our third six weeks I wanted to take a minute to say how much I have loved teaching this class and these students. They are a hard working group and I look forward to seeing them every day.
AP WH: This week we took our test on our first Mini Unit in our study of the Global Tapestry. We are moving into studying Developments in East Asia and Feudalism in Japan and Europe. We will continue to practice our writing for the AP Exam at the end of the year by beginning to look at the LEQs (or Long Essay Questions). This will be a five-paragraph essay that will be assigned and graded in our third six-weeks. We will work through the process slowly at first, and then put all of the pieces together for a final product. I did want to take a minute to say that I appreciate all of the hard work the students have been putting into their studies in World History. We talked a bit this week about the importance of taking time out for yourself, as well as completing school work, in order to hopefully alleviate some of the overwhelming feelings they have been experiencing lately. School is so important, but taking care of yourself is just as important.
American History I Honors: We are finishing Unit IV: Religion & Reform. Students were given Friday to complete their Eyewitness to History questions and Unit IV Essays. Their study guides, crash course videos, and vocabulary should be complete. Monday we will complete our review with AP US HISTORY notes and a QUIZZIZ review game (we played KAHOOT on Friday).
All Unit IV work is due MONDAY, 10/28 at the beginning of the period.
The Unit IV test is TUESDAY, 10/29.
Science
Chem Honors:We are working on Unit 8 currently and the Study Island quiz for the 2nd six weeks is due on Thursday.
APES: We have just started Unit 4. Students will be assigned a NC River Basin project early this week.
Biology Honors: This week in Biology we covered evolution. The end of the six weeks ends next Thursday. The students will have a Vocabulary Quiz Tuesday and an Open Book Quiz on Wednesday and Thursday. The evolution test will be Friday. It will be the first grade of the 3rd six weeks.
