WBMS Friday Notes
March 26-30
Reflections from Ms. Perkins
WBMS Parents and Guardians –
Last week’s Talent Show was a wonderful illustration of not only our students’ extraordinary skills but also their courage. Each one seized his or her moment on stage and owned it making those of us in the audience proud. Yes, the music, dancing, comedy, gymnastics, and magic were great, but the bravery is what I will remember. Sometimes we forget how essential courage is. Each day we ask students to take educated risks as we encourage them to problem-solve and think critically because we know that learning truly is a process of trial and error, but all of that risk-taking can be exhausting. So I sincerely hope our students (and you, if you are able) fully enjoy Spring Break. If you all are traveling, please be safe! I look forward to seeing relaxed and refreshed faces on Monday, April 9th.
In collaboration,
Rebecca Williams Perkins
Principal, Webb Bridge Middle School

Milestones Testing
The Georgia Milestones Assessment System (Georgia Milestones) is a comprehensive summative assessment program spanning grades 3 through high school.

Students in grades 3 through 8 take an end-of-grade assessment in English Language Arts and mathematics while students in grades 5 and 8 are also assessed in science and social studies. High school students take an end-of-course assessment for each of the ten courses designated by the State Board of Education.

REDUCE TESTING ANXIETY
The brain reacts to all anxiety-causing stimuli the same way. Whether you’re anxious about an oncoming train, or the difficulty in choosing between answer b and answer c, your anxiety—even just a little anxiety—is going to make thinking more difficult.
- One of the most efficient and effective methods for stimulating mental processes and performance is controlled breathing. Research shows that students can improve their performance if they do breathing exercises prior to tests or assignments; these exercises also reduce test anxiety. Controlled breathing increases oxygen flow to the brain, which in turn boosts memory, concentration and problem-solving abilities.
- Teach students to count to five when breathing in, and then exhale for a count of five (all through the nose, which adds a natural resistance to the breath).
