Welcome Woodward Families!

August 25, 2021

Dear Families,

Welcome to the start of another great year here at Woodward School! Whether you are a new family or returning to Woodward, we hope you are as excited as we are to start the year. While we continue to face adversity and change, what remains constant is the dedication of our faculty and staff in providing the highest quality education to the students of Southborough. What also remains is the overwhelming level of support shared by our parent community. Thank you, parents and families! Our entire staff has been working hard to prepare for the upcoming school year and the changing landscape of education during the pandemic. We can’t wait to kick off the year!

In this newsletter, we have provided information related to the school start time, open house, arrival and dismissal procedures, school communication, district-issued devices, transportation, health and safety, and upcoming dates of interest. Please look over the information and contact myself, the main office, or your child’s teacher if you have any questions or concerns.

Thanks to our amazing custodial staff, Woodward is looking its finest! Mr. Mercer and Mr. Mancini, along with other district custodial and maintenance staff deserve all the credit. Joining our outstanding custodial staff is Chris Chartier. Please join me in welcoming Mr. Chartier to the Woodward Community.

Open House

Woodward Open House will be on Tuesday, August 31st from 3:00pm - 5:00pm.

Second grade - 3:00pm - 4:00pm

Third grade - 4:00pm - 5:00pm

Students arriving to school by a parent or guardian may be dropped off starting at 8:40a.m. using the lower parking lot drop-off line. This is an active drop-off, so please remain in your vehicle and DO NOT pass other vehicles. Once a staff member is present in the lower lot, and after exiting the vehicle from the passenger side, students will proceed up the path and staircase, then meet staff to cross in front of the school using the crosswalks. If you drop your student off after 8:55am, you must park your vehicle and walk your child to the front entrance to be signed in. When entering the building, please be sure both you and your child are wearing a mask.
Big picture

Parents and guardians who are picking up a child at the end of the day are asked to park in the lower lot and meet their student on the left side (north side) of the building. Please do not park in the driveway as this impedes bus entry and exit. Parents are asked to wait outside until dismissal, at which point a staff member will begin dismissing students to adults. Staff members will only release a child to a known, identified adult, listed as a pick-up person. Again, for the safety and well-being of all of our students, please do not take children out of the dismissal line without the knowledge of the staff member in charge at dismissal. Please relay this information to all grandparents, relatives, or guardians who may pick up or drop off your student. Students taking the bus home, staying for an extended day, or RAP classes will be dismissed to those locations by a staff member.
Big picture

Thanks to our supportive parent community and SOS, Woodward students are provided with a variety of experiences that enhance their school experience. Some of the special programs and guests funded by SOS include Johnny the K (musician and motivational speaker), Chris Poulos (stunt BMX rider and motivational speaker), Kate Messner (children’s author), Jerry Pallotta (children’s author), Eyes on Owls and Discovery Museum virtual presentations, High Touch High Tech, and Freedom Trail Scholars to name a few. In addition, SOS helps to subsidize the cost of field trips for all students, sponsors the purchase of school supplies and pictures for families in need, purchased books used for One School One Read, and other materials used every day by students and staff. If you are interested in getting involved and volunteering in this wonderful organization, please take a minute to complete a very brief survey.

Devices and Technology

Students will again be issued a district-supplied device to be used for the 2021-2022 school year. Devices will be distributed during the school day and brought home by students. Please follow the link for more information regarding the

Earlier this month, you should have received a communication from Assistant Superintendent of Operations, Keith Lavoie, and Transportation Coordinator, Jean Pinto, outlining the bus route and stop assignment for your child.
