Ms. Cipriano's Newsletter - Week of January 11th
•Question of the Week; “How does a panda change in its first year of life?”
•Amazing words: bamboo, curious, measure, weigh, healthy and explore
•We recognized and named uppercase and lowercase letter: Ii, Mm, Cc, Pp, Tt, Ss, Bb. Nn and Aa
•Identified initial and final sounds within various words
•High- frequency words: I, am, the, little, to, a, have, is, we, like, me, he, for, me, she, with
•Compare and Contrast using our big book, Little Panda
•Verbs- What are they?
•Used our “rubber bands” to help sound out CVC words
•Some of our favorite books that we read are Betty Lou Blue, Little Panda and Martin’s Big Words
•Reviewed headline, midline and baseline
•Practiced writing uppercase and lowercase letters Bb, Nn, Ii, Ss, Aa, Mm, Tt, Pp and Cc
•Helpful strategies when writing (finger spacing, capital letters, punctuation)
•Students were asked to identify verbs and write it in a sentence
•Plus sign and equal sign
•Introduction to Shadows
•The students and I engaged in meaningful talks about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We used words like brave, helpful, kind and strong to describe him. The students reflected and brainstormed a positive and fair dream that they wanted to see come true in the world or in their community. I loved hearing their ideas!
SEL: We continue to sit as a class and place ourselves somewhere on the Mood Meter J Students have been engaging in conversation about the word fair and what it means to be fair. We discussed how Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. wanted fairness and equality for everyone.
