Shoes, Socks, Bottles, and Bug Spray

SHOES AND SOCKS: Students must wear shoes at all times. Please send indoor shoes for your child (preferably slip on). Your child will not be able to remove socks during the day. Please ensure that your child can put on their indoor and outdoor shoes independently. If they don't know how to tie their shoes, they may need to practice at home before wearing those shoes to school.

WATER BOTTLES: Please send a filled water bottle with your child each day. We have a water dispenser for refills, but our drinking fountains are not yet functional.

BUG SPRAY: Please send bug spray and a signed medication form if you would like your child to have access to bug spray during school. We will apply it if they request it.

Snacks and Lunch

Please have your child bring a snack separate from their lunchbox. We leave our lunchboxes in our lunch basket until lunchtime.

Please label lunchboxes and water bottles with your child's name.

We still have snack on Fridays, just in the classroom.

*We are a nut free classroom. We have a child with nut allergy in our class and appreciate your help in preventing an allergic reaction. We have a nut free table outside. However, when we must eat in our classroom, students with nut products will eat in another classroom or can be provided an alternate snack.

Student Led Conferences

Parents will be asked to attend student-led conferences during the school year where students lead a conference with teachers and parents and present their portfolios for parents to preview. Formal discussion of your child’s progress may be requested at any time during the year.

Homework

Read, read, read! Read to your child and/or have your child read to you each night. We recommend that you read a minimum of 30 minutes each day. This is the most important thing you can do to help your child become a strong reader and writer.

Math homework will be sent home on Mondays and returned to school on Fridays. This will always be a review of concepts we have worked on in class. It should come easily to your child. If it is ever frustrating or you feel like you are having to teach your child, let me know!

Be a kid! Play outside. Spend time with your family.

Technology

We are working on getting everything set up for full internet use.

Please send a set of headphones that your child can keep at school for the year.

Community Service Project

Each CTL class will be doing a service project this year. Our class will be collecting pajamas for the Great Bedtime Story Pajama Drive beginning in November. Scholastic adds a book to each donation and they all go to local children in need.

Book Orders

I will send home Scholastic book orders once a month, but there are many more titles available online. Book orders must be submitted online and are due the first Friday of each month. I have a list of recommendations as well as a wishlist available online.

How can you help our class?

If you would like to contribute to our classroom needs, our wish list is available on our website and will be updated periodically. Our current needs are:

Hem curtains Containers for stations Index cards

Craft sticks Toothpicks Mailing tape

Velcro dots Nut-free snacks Pipe cleaners

Water bottles Craft supplies Paper towels

Play-Doh Paper plates iPod

Dixie cups Gallon freezer bags

Requests for volunteers for special events will typically come to you from the room parent or the parent group. However, I am using my website to allow volunteers to sign up to be Mystery Readers for our class.

Do you do something special or celebrate a holiday that you would like to teach us about? We love having visitors! Let us know if you are interested in sharing your knowledge!
