NON-POINT SOURCE POLLUTION

Animal Operations

Waste products from animals and other organisms can degrade the water quality in the Chowan River Basin if it flows into the basin.

Stormwater Discharge

Stormwater discharge can degrade the water quality of the Chowan River Basin because anything that rainwater picks up as it flows into stormwater drains will be washed into the basin.

POINT-SOURCE POLLUTION

Waste Water Treatment Plants

Waste water treatment plants can degrade the water quality of the Chowan River Basin because sometimes people don't properly clean water because they are trying to save money and as a result the dirty water flows back into basin.

Industrial Facilities

Industrial facilities can degrade the water quality of the Chowan River Basin because some of them don't pass regulations but they keep doing what they are doing anyway without trying to fix the problem.

SOLUTIONS

One solution to the non-point source pollution is to build walls around the streams flowing into the Chowan River Basin so we can filter the water entering the basin. One solution to the point-source pollution is to shut down facilities that do not pass regulations so we can keep the water clean.
