All Things SLI
Silver Lake Intermediate Jan. 22, 2021
SLI Families:
Thank you so much for assisting us in the refined drop off and pick up processes to keep our students safe.
This week families in grades 4-7 should have received information about selecting elective courses for next school year. Next year's 5th & 6th graders only choose their music course while next year's 7th & 8th graders choose their world language selection and other Explore class options. Please log into Skyward Family Access by Feb. 5 to indicate your child's preferences for courses next year. Information that was sent home to families is included in this newsletter.
If you have missed information from your child's grade level/courses about our optional Parent Teacher Conferences on Feb. 11, and would like to schedule a conference, please reach out to them to arrange a time. These conferences are held on Feb. 11 from 3:00-7:30 pm.
Next week our students will be taking the MAP district assessment in reading & math. Please encourage your student to do his/her best work. We are excited to see their growth from September.
On Wednesday, January 27, we will be holding a virtual parent meeting for incoming 5th grade SLI families. Please see the information below regarding it and pass it along to any families that may be interested.
Lastly, our staff had professional training earlier this week regarding our implementation of Character Strong Lessons. One thing the presenter discussed is how we ask students: What did you at school today, but what would we receive for answers if we asked them instead: What did you do for others today?
Have a great weekend!

MAP District Assessment
Please encourage your child to do his/her best, eat breakfast, and get plenty of sleep the night before testing. For students who may experience anxiety with testing, reassure them this test is only one measure of their progress in school. It does not affect their grades. It offers us a snapshot of how they are doing and areas they are doing well and areas where we can help them do well. If a student needs a break during testing, he/she should communicate this with their teacher.
OHS Scheduling for Current Eighth Graders
The OHS Counselors will return to SLI for course selection on Tuesday, January 26th. Please encourage students to be in attendance next Tuesday to ensure they have access to the counselors for questions.
5th Grade Kindness in Action
Mrs. Sindic’s Fifth Graders wanted to send positive messages to people in our community. They decided that Angel’s Grace hospice patients and their families would appreciate our messages of kindness! The posters will be delivered early next week.
Updated Drop Off & Pick Up Procedures @ SLI
USDA EXTENDS FREE MEAL PROGRAM
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service has again extended the free student meals program, providing a free breakfast and lunch option for students until June 30, 2021, or until the USDA confirms that funding is no longer available, whichever comes first. As a result, student breakfast and lunch will be free on the days that students are learning at school face-to-face, and the days that students are learning virtually.
Full Face to Face January Family Communication
What does my child do if they are in quarantine or isolation?
Even though we are back full face to face five days a week, students in quarantine are expected to Zoom into the class here at school.
If your child is ill and is unable to participate in the virtual schedule (i.e. attend Zoom meeting with the in person class), please email your child's teachers so they are aware and can work with individual families/students.
What if my child has technical issues at home?
Students and families who need technical support can submit a ticket using the form on their student bookmarks, or available here. In addition, support from our Technology Help Desk is available during the school day by calling 262-560-2126 or emailing helpdesk@oasd.org. For those who do not have reliable internet access at home, please contact our help desk to request a hotspot. The OASD Technology Website has additional information on remote learning and technology resources.
