A message from the Principal
It is hard to believe that it has been another week of learning at home! Yesterday we heard that our school buildings would be closed for the remainder of the year. While we understand why we are staying home and believe that it is in the best interest of all of our students and their families we are still deeply saddened.
To help brighten your spirits, the staff has been working on creating a message for all of you, we hope you have a few minutes to watch the following video and know that it was created with much love.

From the Superintendent's letter sent out on Friday, April 3, 2020, "Families can anticipate receiving a Weekly Home Learning Support plan for the week of April 6-10, 2020, our scheduled Spring Break, and are encouraged to utilize it in a manner that best meets the needs of their students/family. Please note that teachers will be preparing for the launch of our Distance Learning Instruction Plan, and therefore will not be scheduling check-ins or meeting with students over Spring Break."
The Winchester staff is here to support you and your child(ren). We will continue to be creative in serving our students for the remainder of this school year.
Thank you for your continued partnership!
Sincerely,
Kelly Lindsay, Principal

Mr. Kolpak to Perform Live Streamed on April 11th at 7:00 PM
Our Music Teacher, Mr. Josh Kolpak, is an extraordinary pianist. He was supposed to play Beethoven in concert at Oakland University last weekend, which was unfortunately cancelled. Instead the concert will be performed Saturday evening, April 11 at 7:00 PM, live streamed on YouTube at the following link:

I think your family will be inspired by the music and your children will LOVE seeing Mr. Kolpak.

Medical Mask Cover Project
Dear School and Community Members,
Thank you so much for your talent and initiative in helping to create mask covers and face shields! We are so grateful for each person who has contributed materials, cut fabric, sewed, or created. We appreciate your help. The need is great.
We have some requests for mask covers that have a pocket to accept a filter. The video below demonstrates an easy modification to the pleated mask cover shared last week. Please see the video. We would appreciate having these mask covers as well.
Please do not take mask covers or face shields from the boxes to deliver personally to medical facilities. Not every facility is accepting these. The mask covers will be sent to facilities that are accepting them. They are committed to the locations where they will be used.
You will find an excellent video below that shows the modification to the pleated mask pattern.
Questions about medical needs or facilities accepting mask covers and face shields may be directed to: Vidooshi, vidooshi.g.maru@gmail.com, Anita: sinhalogan@gmail.com, or Bindya: pabindya@gmail.com.
Please put your contributions in a baggie with your name and email inside. We want to be sure to thank contributors appropriately. Please wipe down the baggie before putting it in the collection box.
Collection boxes are located outside each NPS elementary school: Amerman, Moraine, Ridge Wood, Silver Springs, Thornton Creek, and Winchester, as well as at Old Village School at the north end of the building and will be collected daily.
Thank you again for your support during these difficult times. Please feel free to share this information.
Physical Education - Ms. Haite needs your help!
Ms. Haite is looking for some music suggestions from students.
In the Winchester gymnasium we enjoy doing some fun holiday activities. The Haunted Gymnasium and our Candy Cane Classic (Reindeer Games) are quite popular! If you are into music, I thought you might enjoy helping me come up with music to add to our playlists. YOU WILL NEED YOUR PARENTS PERMISSION to search ONLINE or in ITUNES. If you have suggestions for new songs, please email Ms. Haite and give her the song name and the artist. (haitehe@northvilleschools.org)
March is Reading Month Reading Logs
The March is Reading Month committee will work to figure out what prize your child earned.
Please complete the form no later than Monday, April 13th.
Thank you!
A Note from the Northville Public Schools Support Staff
Northville Families,
The school social work/school psychology/counseling department wanted to share resources for your children and families to utilize until we resume school.
Below are some tips from the CDC to keep in mind as we move forward:
Turn off the TV: Avoid excessive exposure to media coverage of COVID-19.
Take care of your body. Take deep breaths, stretch or meditate. Try to eat healthy, well-balanced meals, exercise regularly, get plenty of sleep.
Make time to unwind and remind yourself that strong feelings will fade. Take breaks from watching, reading, or listening to news stories. It can be upsetting to hear about the crisis and see images repeatedly. Try to do some other activities you enjoy to return to your normal life.
Connect with others. Share your concerns and how you are feeling with a friend or family member. Maintain healthy relationships.
Maintain a sense of hope and positive thinking.
Please download the attached PDF for additional enrichment ideas and links to community resources.
