Classical Conversations

Broken Arrow, OK Trinity Lutheran Campus

Whoo Hoo! We are at 603 maps!!!! We are so close to our goal!

Thank you to everyone who brought items for our Valentines Party! I think the kids had fun! It is nice that we can share the Love of God with each other. The greatest love ever is the love of the Father God. The one thing I want my kids to have is to know that they are deeply loved by God. If they know this in their soul and spirits then I believe this will keep them from making a lot of bad choices. While it is fun to exchange valentines with our friends, we should always be pointing them back to the Love of God! It truly changes how you see everything.

Next week we have our Open House and Informational Meeting. Please let your children know we will have visitors again in their classes. Some might want to participate and others might just want to observe.

We will also start our six weeks of the Orchestra and Composers. For week 19 we will do fine arts together as a community right after Morning Assembly. I will be introducing what the Orchestra is and Mrs. Wilson has agreed to play her viola and tell us about her instrument. Her girls may accompany her! If any of you or your children would like to play your instrument in future weeks please let me know.

This will be our last week before our break. We will not meet on February 23rd.

On a personal note, I want to say how grateful I am for each of you! It is so reassuring to be on this journey with families that have the same vision.

For the Lord gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. Proverbs 2:6

Prayer Requests and Praise Reports

Pray for families in our community as they look to God to provide jobs and housing.

Pray for unity among family members and strong healthy marriages.

Pray for God to lead the right people to our campus.

Community Announcements:

Tutors and Subs

I ask each one of you to pray about whether God is calling you to tutor or be a substitute tutor this coming year. Each one of you has amazing talents and gifts that can serve our community. I anticipate that we will add possibly two classes this coming year. So please take some time to prayerfully consider being a tutor or sub.

Map Pizza Party and Market Day

We are going to have our map pizza party on the same day as Market Day (March 22nd). We are running out of dates to choose from and this date makes the most sense. I have a fun surprise planned in addition to pizza but I will keep that a surprise until later.

Market Day is a time when our children get to show their entrepreneurial skills. They make something to sell to their friends. Last year children made cookies, brownies, marshmallow guns, beaded necklaces, bracelets, bookmarks, paper airplanes and duck tape wallets to name a few. We will set up tables and let the children sell their items during the lunch hour. Parents can sit with them and help them sell and make change. There is so much we can teach them through this activity: marketing, budgeting, doing your best, etc. It is a fun time and the kids have a blast making things and selling them to their friends. It is a good idea to keep items in the $1 to $3 price range. Start thinking of what you want to sell and send me a list (we want to try not to duplicate items).

Closing Ceremonies

Our Closing Ceremonies will be on Monday, April the 18th at 6:15 at the Church. Plan to arrive at 5:45 so we can have everyone ready on time. This is a time for our students to show off what they have learned to their family and friends. Each class will choose a piece of memory work to demonstrate (The tutors will be getting you details soon about what their class will be doing). I would like us to sing the Exodus song together so please have your students practice this at home. The Essentials students will also be showcasing what they have learned. Plan 6:15 to 7:30 for the ceremony and from 7:30 to 8:30 for refreshments. Last year everyone signed up to bring an appetizer or dessert. If you have any other ideas let me know. Invite grandparents, aunts/uncles, cousins, and friends!

Year End Party

Our year end party will be Tuesday, April 12th at 10:00 am at Mrs. Robinson's house. This will be a day of fun and play! We are going to rent an inflatable for the kids to jump in and have a potluck lunch. More details to come. If you have any more ideas let myself, Mrs. Robinson or Mrs. Maier know.

Year Book Committee

If you are interested in helping us put together a yearbook please let me know. We have some tools and templates to help make the job as easy.

Open Houses and Informational Meetings

The second semester is upon us and that means it is time for Open Houses and Informational Meetings. What better time to invite your friends to come and see what you have been talking about.

Our next Open House is Tuesday, February 16th from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm.

We will have an Information Meeting from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. I highly encourage visitors to stay for the Information Meeting so they can understand the "why" behind what they observe that morning. If they just attend the Open House and do not go to an Information Meeting then they may not understand the philosophy of Classical Education and Classical Conversations. So if you invite friends and family to attend an Open House please stay with them for the Informational Meeting. They are more likely to stay if you do! Also let them know they can bring lunch and eat with us that day.

Children are welcome at the Open House! I will have enough art and science supplies ready. If you have friends that are planning to attend the Open House please let me know how many children to prepare for. I don't want to run out of Art Supplies for them.

Additional Meetings:

Info Meeting - Feb 13th Starbucks 145th and 71st 9:00 to 11:00 AM

Our tutors have uploaded their weekly lessons plans to a google doc to assist you at home. One or two things may be different but most of the information should be the same that was presented in class. I hope you find this helpful.

Online Extras

Does the thought of homeschooling through High School intimidate you? The wonderful thing about CC is that you are not doing it alone. I know that some of you are just a couple of years away from highschool others of you have quite a while. I want to encourage all of you to read an excerpt from our Writers Circle about Leigh Bortins book "The Conversation".
