Abrams Elementary School
TOGETHER --We Learn... We Achieve... We Grow
PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
Please remember that students should not be dropped off before 7:35. We don't have staff supervision until that time. If you have an unusual situation where you need to drop off before that time, please contact me to see if we can make a short term arrangement.
Snow gear should be taken home and washed at least 1 time a week. It could be done more often, but at least 1 time a week is helpful. The kids get dirty and wet so the clothes start to get an odor if not washed frequently. We appreciate your assistance with this.
Please contact me with any questions or concerns you have about your child or school.
Mrs. Michalski
Notes from the Office
Open Enrollment: This year’s Open Enrollment application period will take place between February 4th and April 30th. The Wisconsin Open Enrollment program allows children to attend a public school in a school district other than the one in which they live. Early and late applications will not be accepted. Parents may apply online at https://dpi.wi.gov/oe If you do not have access to a computer, call or stop in at the district office.
If your child is currently attending under Open Enrollment, it is not necessary to complete an application form; your child will remain an active student through 12th grade.

All Arts Day: On April 17th, 2020 we will once again be presenting the All Arts Day program where parent and community volunteers share their artistic talents with our students. It is a chance for students to see that art is all around them in a variety of forms. But to make it work, we need your help. Could you teach a small group of students how to take a good photograph? Scrapbook? Tie a fishing lure? Decorate a cake? Dance a polka? Make play-dough? The possibilities are endless, but we need about 25 volunteers to make the day work. Interested in being a presenter? Please contact the office (826-5819) for more information or to volunteer. Thanks.

Bus Safety Guidelines
Approaching a bus with Yellow Lights:
Must be treated the same as a yellow traffic light
If there is time to stop safely, you must stop
Be prepared for the lights to switch to red at any time
Passing a bus with yellow lights puts you at great risk for hitting a child
Approaching a bus with Red Lights:
It is ILLEGAL to pass a bus with red lights activated
State Law requires all vehicles to stop at least 20 feet away from the bus
No vehicle may move until the red lights have turned off
Motorists can be fined up to $300 for illegally passing a school bus
Any time you are near a school bus, be watchful for children in the road. Never tailgate a bus!
The only time it is acceptable to pass a stopped bus is if you are traveling the opposite direction on a
fully divided freeway such as Highway 141 or Highway 41.

Youth ART Month!
The Oconto Falls School District is proud to present the artistic achievements of over 400 students from Kindergarten through 12th grade in the YAM art exhibit at the Oconto Falls Public Library for the month of March. A special reception for all artists and their families will be Thursday, March 5th, from 6-7 PM. Be inspired by viewing chocolate cakes, pastel animals, clay figures & animal sculptures, acrylic paintings, photography, and so much more!!
The YAM exhibit consists of quality artwork that is created using a Discipline Based Education. The four foundational art disciplines taught in art classes include art production, art history, art criticism, and aesthetics. By having all these disciplines introduced, students develop critical thinking skills, awareness of cultural and historical influences, communication skills, and explore career opportunities. In this type of curriculum, art is considered a basic subject in general education, one that is meaningful and should be available to all grade levels and for all students.
Special appreciation is extended to our staff, families, and community who support art education and encourage our children to develop these essential life skills. Also a special thank you to our public library for hosting the YAM exhibit. The following art staff educate and inspire the students in the Oconto Falls School District: Kelly Kokko-Ludemann, Karen Knoerzer, Megan Pierquet and Stephen Nagy.
