Curriculum Data Mapping

I am a huge fan of Heidi Jacob Heyes, which if you knew of her, you probably would be as well. She is the guru of Curriculum Mapping. Her expertise in Curriculum Mapping has helped schools become streamlined and focused on what is most essential and helps everyone to see how learning happens in real time! Just in case you were wondering, we are on the cutting edge in the work that we have been engaged in. Enjoy the ride. The process is the fun part. You will be so glad you hung in there! Here are some excerpts from one of Ms. Heyes books on Curriculum mapping!

  1. Definition: A real-time, calendar-based (monthly), ongoing process for collecting, reviewing, modifying, and maintaining of the operational (actual) and planned learning in a learning organization.
  2. Mapping is about establishing and maintaining an ongoing, collaborative curriculum environment.
  3. Why necessary? Curriculum Mapping addresses the need to consider not only what teachers are teaching, but more importantly, what students are truly experiencing and learning. Over time, this process, known as diary mapping, reveals the operational curriculum. If the maps we create are going to help us improve teaching and learning, we need to have an accurate picture of what we are all doing. The curriculum maps have the potential to become the hub for making decisions about teaching and learning.
  4. It is important to create quality maps so that it can used to gain a proper insight into gaps, absences and repetitions.
  5. Curriculum Mapping has a learning curve and for a time the teachers will be students as they learn something new.

Encourage them to place their trash in the trashcans and pick trash up in the hallway when they see it. Thank you!
