Weekly Info About Ms. Toothman's Year Long Art Class - Week8

Hello Again! Here's what's been going on in Art Class and what's coming up this week:

Hi students, parents, and ELA! I'm glad to hear everybody made it through the Joaquin deluge last weekend and that sunny skies are ahead. It was so flooded that there were people surfing behind a truck through the streets in my neighborhood!

This past week we've started Module 4 which is exciting because we're finally getting into the more hands-on assignments in our art class. So far, I've seen some great looking shaded spheres and a few fabulously organized color harmony studies. Take a look below to see more of what we're working on until October 19th in art class.

I'll be submitting another progress report to schools on Tuesday afternoon. There's only a handful of students who are late with Module 3 assignments. If you know you're late on assignments due to illness, life situations, or any other reason, you're going to want to catch yourself up quickly because things really start to pick up this week and next. Also, grades are updated daily, so if you want a more accurate view of your grade before your school hands out progress reports, check your grades in Moodle.

Noah created his color harmony project in digital art form. His geometric motif and spot on precision really accentuates his work.

Color harmonies in the top row: complementary, triadic, monochromatic
Color harmonies in the bottom row: analogous, cool color analogous, split-complementary

Jennifer's Shaded Sphere

You can tell that Jennifer spent some time perfecting this sphere with a cross-hatched base and well-blended top layer. She exhibits a full range of values in her tidily drawn sphere.

Erisa shows off her subtle and delicate blending skills in her shaded sphere as she masterfully creates a realistic cast shadow.

Supplies for Module 4

As we start using more traditional materials, students will need to have access to their

  • sketchbook (or unlined drawing paper at least 9" x 12")
  • regular wooden pencils and erasers
  • colored pencils
  • markers
  • digital camera (or phone, tablet, or iPod with camera) (webcam if you're really desperate but they're not ideal)

If for any reason you are having trouble gathering these materials for class, please contact BOTH me and your ELA at your school. We both want you to have access to everything you need to be successful in this class.
