Green Meadows Newsletter

May 2020

Hello Green Meadows Families

Dear Green Meadows Families,

It is hard to believe schools have been closed for almost two months. We know this new normal is challenging for all of the families working at home and trying to navigate home school. We applaud you. We know it is not easy and we are here to help anyway we can. Green Meadows staff is working very hard to stay connected to all our students and families. Every day we are learning about new technology and different learning platforms. Staff are doing their best and we appreciate your feedback. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you need any support or help. Together, we will get through this. We are “Green Meadows Strong”.

Principal Moberg

Middle School

Please be sure to read the district Middle School Grading Message below in its entirety. As of May 11th, new learning started for students. The instruction of new material will be intentionally slow. The schedule was shared with families this past Monday. It is important that all students participate in this new learning. Teachers will be sensitive to unique student situations with regard to expectations and work submissions. Teachers will also be available for live Zoom sessions so that students can check in, ask questions and receive help. Teachers will also continue to be available during their Office Hours. Students should continue to access Google Classroom on a regular basis. During term 4, students will not be penalized for late or resubmitted work following the guidelines provided in the parent communication below. The hope is to incentivize learning while acknowledging unique circumstances for students and families. Students will be graded on a Pass/Fail grading practice for the remainder of this school year. Teachers will communicate regularly with students to provide feedback on their work, and grades will be posted online on a biweekly basis. The Team is prepared and excited for this new stage in remote learning. Please reach out to any member of the Team with any questions. We are here for you.

Elementary Google Slide Decks

Students in Grades PK-5 started new learning on May 4th, slowly and thoughtfully. This is week 2 using the new Google Slide Decks. We hope students and families are finding that these are engaging and easy to use. Every day we are learning how to tweak them and make them just a little bit better than the day before. Even small tweaks like adding audio directions are making a big difference. A huge shout out to all the teachers who are taking huge risks. Some have shared video read alouds, nature adventures, and science experiments with students. Teachers are also starting to have Morning Meetings, recording mini lessons, and holding live Zoom sessions. Please continue to send along encouragement. It is not easy but they are doing a FANTASTIC job.

Please email Mr. V at avillamaino@hwrsd.org if your child is still in need of a device

The District sent along a Parent Survey last Thursday, May 7th. They are looking to get your feedback on how Remote Learning is working for your family. If you did not get a chance to complete it yet, we hope you do. Your feedback is so important as we continue to move forward. Thank you.
