Student Work Load - Please know that every teacher at Churchill is doing everything that they can to make sure that their curriculum has integrity and that students are learning at high levels. I believe this first and foremost. It is a most complex thing to be able to let go, to not teach what would have been essential this last trimester and have to truly prioritize the standards that students are going to need. I believe that he focus should center on what we will do next trimester to help bridge the gap. We remind ourselves that we are experiencing profound complications across the globe with respect to social impact and personal restrictions. Our guiding principle at this time is less on content and more on what students need to survive the quarantine. For many of our students this event has impacted them beyond compare.
On a humane level we just can't over extended our students in this time. Please review your assignments and keep workload to an average of 30 minutes per day. I recommend that we ask students how they have been doing and how long the work you have given is taking for students to complete. It might give perspective from the students on how long it is taking to compete.
Below you will see the impact that one particular student has been experiencing.
"I feel that some teachers are assigning more work than usual due to the current circumstances. However, personally, I know that regardless of the fact that I'm at home almost all day, I still have a lot going on. I have to take care of my two younger siblings and their schooling in place of my mother who is unable to, and with this added workload I feel like I'm even more stressed than I would be in school. On top of this, all of my classes are academic classes. As a Junior this is the time for me to be preparing for my senior year, I'm getting as many credits out of the way as I can, and it doesn't help that I am an IHS student, where the standards are already excessively high, and for those standards and expectations to go up because I'm in quarantine seems unfair."

Kudos
A big shout out of appreciation and thanks to our school nurses across the district, but a big warm kudo to our very own Nurse Kim Roellig! Kim always has students on her radar and how to offer support and care. She leads with her heart as a true caregiver. Thank you for your compassion and care for students. Thank you for extending that care to our plants in the front office as well. They are alive and well and thankful for your attention.
I would like to extend a big shout out and thank you to our food service staff Mary Hicks, Sandee Blythe, Norma List, and Jonna Witbeck. You have been churning away in the kitchen making sure our families are feed. I can't think of a better way to support the community than to make sure our kids have their basic needs met. You are home town heroes for sure. Thank you.
