The Lion's Share
Fall Break
Message from the Principal:
As you are probably aware, the Arizona Department of Education released school letter grades at the end of the week. This has been the first time that letter grades have been released since the state replaced the AIMS assessment. Using last year's testing data, Settler's Point earned a "B" grade.
While earning a "B" is an accomplishment, particularly when only 18% of schools in our state earned an "A" rating, we are not satisfied. We are spending time reflecting on what we are doing, and being intentional about what and how we teach. I am confident that we can use this as a learning opportunity and improve as we move forward.
I would also like to remind you that parent teacher conferences are right around the corner. This year we are having parents sign up electronically. Links for every homeroom teacher were sent out twice this week. My goal for conferences is to have 100% attendance. When school and home collaborate, it's the students that benefit. Please sign up for a time to meet with us. If you would prefer a phone conference, please reach out to your student's teacher.
It is my job to serve the parents, students, and staff of Settler's Point. If there is anything I can do to help, please feel free to reach out to me.

First Grade Spotlight
First Grade!!
We’ve been working hard establishing stamina for Daily 5 and have fully implemented it into our morning reading block! The children are doing a great job reading to self, reading to someone, working on writing, working on word work, and listening to reading. We’ve also added a plus one called work on math.
Field Day Fun....
Mrs. Myers-Nuzum's class had a blast this last week at our K-2 Field Day!

We’ve also been working on and creating circle maps, tree maps, and bubble maps from our Write From the Beginning program. Some of the students have even gone above and beyond creating extensions on their mandatory work. Here the student asked if she could add a bubble map!
